Why two graphics options on the XPS 15
My question is about graphics options on Dell XPS 15. This computer is equipped with a Sandy Bridge processor, which has Intel HD Graphics 3000.
On the other hand the laptop has a dedicated graphics card. Why is it necessary to have both of them.
When can I use the processor's graphics and when the dedicated card? Isn't the latter draining battery power?

Hi Academica,
Welcome to the Community. These systems are equipped with the Nvidia Optimus Technology. Nvidia Optimus technology is designed to maximize performance and user experience on the computer, while minimizing the impact on battery life. It combines the graphic processing capability of the integrated Intel® graphic processing unit (GPU) with the discrete nVidia GPU while running graphic-intensive applications such as 3-D games.
Below is the link for the full document and settings for Nvidia Optimus, that could be useful for you.

Hope this helps.
Thank you
