The vacuum tube display in the inspiron 6000 is not compatable with windows 7.

There are no VISTA Drivers for the 6000 unless you have the model with optional RADEON x300 video.

The current 4764 xp driver will work. I am using it currently with no issue. You have to load it up old school. You create a folder for your vid driver then extract the files to it (Ex: Intel vid driver) then you go to your device manager find the display driver and click update driver, then choose the bottom selection to look for it yourself. Then on the next page choose the bottom selection again to find it yourself (to look in a specific location. Then click have disk, and browse to the file you created and look for the setup information file (the .inf file the description will say setup information. Once you click the inf file, the file name will appear in the driver window from your update driver screen. Click next and it will install the driver. Old school with an XP driver but my vid works fine. I am also a certified Dell systems tech. Hope this hellps you.

You need to do a driver search just by using your service tag on Dell's site. It will tell you what your system shipped with, and what drivers you will need. As for the vid driver, I am running an Inspiron 6000 with the Integrated 915GM intel graphic driver which the latest version on Dell's site is version 4764. I am using this driver and it works fine (it is an xp driver). One thing you will need to know, the setup.exe file does not work installing the driver ( an XP setup file will not work in a different environment of w7). You will need to use a file extraction program (like 7-zip) to extract the archive even if it's an exe file, create a directory for it (EX: Intel vid driver) and extract the entire file into it. You will need to go to the device manager click on update driver, then on the next window, click the bottom selection in finding the driver yourself, then the next window once again click the lower selection once again to pick the device and then click on have disk. Use the browse button to locate your driver file, then follow it's directory down until you see a file that looks like a piece of paper with a little blue gear on the bottom left corner of the icon. That is the actual driver file and it will be the setup information file or the .inf file. click on it and you will see the driver you are about to install. click next and it will install it, and once completed the system will prompt for a reboot. Once the reboot is completed, your driver will be loaded and working properly. My name is JD and a certified Dell systems tech.
