i have a dell laptop, i upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 pro yesterday. everytime i use webcam,  make a call or something, my computer goes into blue screen with "driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal" error.  i updated all my hardwares, used device manager and made sure there are no red or yellow indicators, gone into safe mode, reinstalled drivers, used registry error fix programs like ARO and advanced system care, asked for dell's assistance(useless), updated all drivers, but still the same result. i found this out when i used skype and made a video call, then this happened. please help me out guys.

here are more details:

i have a dell inspiron 1564

updated all in windows update

here are some conversation that we had, between a microsoft agent and me:

Microsoft Agent:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Assisted Support. My name is Kunal and I will be assisting you with your case involving Windows 8. For your reference
As I understand it, you are having an issue with using your webcam after upgrading to Windows 8.  If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.

I understand the inconvenience you have experienced. Please be assured that I will do my best to help you.

Paul, at this point, I would suggest that you perform a ‘clean boot’, which will load Windows with only the default services at start-up, to help prevent 3 rdparty application conflicts.

1)       Navigate to the Start screen
2)       Type “ task manager” (without quotes), and then press  ENTER
3)       Click the Startup tab
4)        Right click on each item listed here and select Disable
5)       Close the Task Manager and restart the computer

 * To start Windows in normal mode, re-do this process and enable all the items that you disabled previously.

 Information regarding a clean boot:

  • Some services may temporarily lose functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you restore the settings, the functionality will be restored. However, the original error message or behavior may return.
  • Be aware that if the computer is connected to a network, the network policy settings might prevent you from completing the clean restart procedure. You might have to contact the system administrator for help if you cannot perform a clean startup.

Next, I would suggest that you create a new Windows account (local account) and test if the problem occurs there as well. To do this, follow these steps:

1)      Navigate to the  Start Screen
2)      Move the mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen to bring up the Charm bar
3)      Select  Settings
4)      Select  Change PC settings
5)      Click  Users
6)      Click  Add a user
7)      Click  Sign in without a Microsoft account
8)      Click  Local account
9)      Follow the on-screen instructions
10)    Restart the computer and log-in to the new account
11)   Test the issue

Next, I would like you to test if the problem occurs with the Camera app in Windows 8. To launch this, navigate to the Start Screen and select Camera.

I would also suggest that you run Windows Update to determine if Windows detects newer drivers for your hardware. This may be listed under ‘optional updates’.

If our issue persists, I would need to gather some information regarding your PC to have a better understanding of the system and issue at hand.
·        Make/Model of your laptop
·        Do you have any Antivirus or Firewall installed? (Brand and version?)
·        Just to confirm – Do Dell have any new driver updates for your webcam to function properly on Windows 8?
·        Is the computer connected to a network or domain?
·        Are there any error messages or numbers? Please re-send the image in your initial email, as I was unable to view it

If you encounter any error messages, please capture a screenshot of it. Here’s how to capture a screenshot:

1.      Once the error message appears, press " Ctrl" + " Print Scrn" on the keyboard.
2.      Open Microsoft Word or Paint (Start->Programs->Accessories).
3.      Click on  Edit and click on  Paste (once you paste, you will see the screen capture here).
4.      Now save this file and send it to me.

Your feedback is very important to us. I would appreciate your confirmation or a reply on the results for the suggestions above. If anything is unclear, or if there are any questions about the steps, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will be glad to help.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
ME:
hi, first of all thanks, i finally found someone who is willing to help me rather than to transfer me to other persons/companies.
here's the update:
i did what you said, every part of it. tested the Camera on  windows 8 using the newly made account. there was no problem upon using the camera option, it didn't crash at all. i was able to take pictures and a video as a matter of fact. but upon using skype, ym and other programs that utilizes webcams, calls, audios etc, it came back to that blue screen of death page. still with the same "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal"  error. i was not able to take the picture of that certaon error cause after it shows, the laptop crashes and restarts automatically. so no way of doing a ctrl+print screen. but here attached is an image of what the error in detail looks like as shown by a start up window

by the way, here are the details you were asking for:
1)  dell inspiron 1564
2) kaspersky internet security 2013
3) if you would like to see for yourself, dell doesn't have any drivers for windows 8, please enlighten me if im wrong, ive visited their page over a thousand of times in just a day, did all my best to circulate all pages, but they dont show any drivers for windows 8 at all.
4) no, this is just a personal computer
5) image is attached, error explained why i cant print screen
ps
so maybe theres nothing wrongwith the camera as it worked in the camera app of windows 8. maybe it's on a driver or some registry error. please do help me on this. thank you so much
Microsoft Agent:
Dear Paul,

Thank you for your reply.

Paul, this does appear to be a driver-related issue, as the Windows 8 Camera app is working normally. At this point, I would suggest that you un-install and re-install Skype (if you have not tried this already). To do this, follow these steps:

1)        Navigate to the Start Screen
2)        Type ‘add or remove’
3)        Click on Settings
4)        Click Add or Remove Programs
5)        Locate Skype from the list
6)        Click Remove / Uninstall
7)        Restart the computer
8)        Download & install Skype from the link below:

If possible, also attach all the log files that are listed in the error message, to your next email.

Please keep me updated regarding this issue. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,
ME:
as you can see on my initial email, that i have already done this, and like i said, this is not skype related i think cause i have already mentioned that all programs that use such devices (eg yahoo messenger, 3rd party social apps etc etc) are experiencing the same problem. i do appreciate the help but i just hope you understand what i have already mentioned and how critical the problem is.

popeng,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order Dell System Software first, then the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Try reading...

Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software

You can try this file, also known as Dell Webcam Central.

Create a new unrestricted user account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?

If yes, log out and log back in to your account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?

If no, then the webcam became detached from the motherboard, usually near the webcam

If your computer is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support

I have a Dell XPS 1647 and it has the same problems.  Anytime anything else trys to use the camera the system crashes.  If it was a driver issue then using the camera feature wouldn't work.  I have also hooked up a Microsoft LifeCam VX-800 and had the same problem occur.  The built in camera feature works fine but anything that accesses that camera cause the system to crash.  This leads me to believe that there is communication issue between Windows 8, the driver and the 3rd party app that is trying to access the camera.  If nothing could access the camera then I would believe it's a problem with the driver, or if it was only one app that was having a problem.  Seeing as it's ALL 3rd party apps I believe it's an issue with Windows and Microsoft need to get on this ASAP.

Once again they release something that is not 100% bug free.

I just ran into the same problem : Inspiron 15R - 5520

This worked for me:

1) open up task manager ctrl+shift+esc

2) Startup

3) find webcamdell2.exe and disable it

4) Restarted by going into PC settings, General, Advance startup

Now I can skype again...hope this helps

Anybody fix this?  I have this Windows 8 Skype causing BSOD driver irql error message as above (XPS 15 recent upgrade)?  I also own a Mac and can say I've never had a system crash from anything even after upgrading the system.  What's up with you Microsoft?

cycledoc22,

You have an XPS model and some models have webcam drivers. Please read this carefully...

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.

   Hi........

I am also facing the same problem with my webcam. I have Inspiron 1564 and I have upgraded to windows8 Pro recently. But my web cam is not working properly. Can anybody help me from where I will able to get the updated drivers for my system. I have already contact dell technical support team regarding this issue but they said they have no updated version of drivers for windows8 as the system was made for Windows7.I think at that time there was no Windows8 and now it is launched. So Dell should upgrade their all drivers for new version. It will help many people who have a faith on the Company.

I Recommend the following methods ,is there any blue screen dump after installing skype ,first identify the problem using Blue Screen View

Download and install blue screen view   it will  display the corruct problem whether is due to Driver of Any Hardware or Antivirus

Next Download Latest version of skype Desktop Version

and check issue is solved or not

I have a Dell Inspiron 1464, which I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and had the same problem - Skype video calls cause Windows 8 to crash. Here is how I solved it - went to control panel/uninstall a program and uninstalled Dell Webcam Central application. It looks like some leftover drivers from Windows 7 is causing the issue. You don't really need the Dell Webcam Central application in WIndows 8 since Win8 comes with the native "Camera" application. Once you uninstall Dell Webcam Central and reboot the computer, Skype video will start working.
