Good news - This has been resolved for me in Win 10 build 10074.

Hi 0Rangutan,

I do have the exact same problem. And like you, I'm using Lync, so the first time I installed W10 9926, Audio looked like working perfectly until I got Lync to startup automatically at boot, I was hanging. Then I discover, that even when Lync was disabled, that as soon an application tried to initialize audio input (like Lync, Skype, "Recording devices" Panel (from the speaker trayicon) I got the driver to hang. I've probably tried every realtek version of driver available, even the default drivers that ships with Windows TP (HD Audio, Realtek HD audio...).

Since then, I also end up relying on external USB peripheral for audio when I work from home and sometime re-enabling the driver when I have to.

I really hoped that the problem would be fixed in 10041, but it isn't. I will may be try, when I get some time, to reinstall from scratch as I may have messed up too much with drivers (something I missing that create the conflict). Have you tried so?

Michel

Thanks for sharing this info - it looks like we are seeing exactly the same issue.

I have had no more luck yet, including trying the preview of the Skype for Business branded version of Lync.  I will test again any time that Dell update the sound drivers or another Windows 10 build gets released.

I will let you know if I come up with any kind of fix.

I disagree.

Windows 10 release is potentially just 3-4 months away and any respectable device manufacturer will be writing and testing drivers for the OS by now.  Why would anyone wait until it is released to start coding?  Indeed Microsoft generally provide OEMs with the very earliest announcements of new OS requirements, before going to general developers and the public.

Given the wide-scale public preview of Windows 10, it would also make a lot of sense to take advantage of this and test that new drivers work during the preview (when users will be more understanding of issues) than once Win 10 goes production.

Most suppliers will NOT write drivers for preview editions of an upcoming ne OS; it just doesn't make any sense, and they would have to rewrite constantly. Dell will also NOT issue a driver for Win 10 preview, because they don't write drivers, they get them from the device manufacturers. Drivers included with the Win 10 installation will normally be generic, bare-boned drivers that will not give full options. You will have to cool your heels till Win 10 is official.

Hi Everyone,

I raised the same issue a while ago: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19621954/20748055#20748055

It's actually the microphone that's causing the problem. At least you got a DELL rep to say "You're getting nothing" mine remained unanswered by DELL since I posted it...

Cheers,

Hi Kirkd,

Of course you don't have any issue with Windows 10 in VMware. This thread is about issue with XPS13 sound driver with Windows 10. The sound output in Windows 10 on the XPS13 will work as long as you don't use any recording functionality. Simply going in the recording panel to see the recording properties will make the driver crash, requiring a restart to make the audio out working again.

Regards,

Michel

I am using 10049 with all the upgrades and have no problems with audio. I currently am running in a VMWare virtual box.

Sorry guys, I didn't pick up on the XPS 13 issue, and I suppose I should have because of all the various problems popping up with the XPS 13. I jumped in because when I first started with Win 10 in a  virtual box, I had problems with the audio that were resolved with version 10049.

The update took quite long, but worked fine on two of my computers (a desktop computer and a Sony Vaio Duo 13). Haven't tried the XPS 13 yet, I will let you know.
