Hi,

Please update the BIOS and video drivers and observe how it goes.

If still overheats then consider replacing heatsink and motherboard.

UPDATE: The issue has not occurred since, and I have not updated the BIOS or video drivers. I had been uploading music to Google Play at the time, and that seemed to be kicking the fan into high gear. As soon as the music was finished uploading, the issued stopped (the fan went back to normal, as did the temp, and the computer hasn't shut itself off since.) Not sure how the two are related, but wanted to pass that along. Thanks!

I've been having a similar issue over the past week.  I have probably spent upwards of 4-5 hours on the chat/email and phone diagnosing the problem with them and an extra 6+ hours by myself re-installing the system OS without resolving the issue.  Dell was prompt to send out a tech guy to my home to get parts replaced, after a few hours of work I noticed the same issue happening again and after another 2hrs on support call with them and escalated support, they want to send another technician to check things out again and replace the same part again.  I just don't see the logic to replace something that was replaced 2 days ago.  I have lost soo much time on this issue, if i convert the amount of hours to dollars, it would be easier for me to go out and buy a new system.

What was once a great laptop has turned into a nightmare and a huge burden.  It's time to go shopping again.
