The external keyboard and on screen keyboards work fine. loosing certain letters on my xps 14z laptop keyboard (OS Platform windows 7 home premium)....Right now am using the xps14z keyboard; suddenly working????.... but up until10 minutes ago not working all day...even after multiple reboots - forced to use on screen keyboard.
Therefore, the key board functions properly sometimes; most of the time not.
Hi It's XPS 14Z Model L412Z ....And now I'm Back On the on screen keyboard again....seems The laptop key board has stopped working properly again It's 2:30 Wednesday morning here I' going to bed....
1 usb port stopped working after trying your remedy aswell as the key board....
Did what you asked, keyboard not working properly....
But after performing the operation, now one of my usb ports is not working and the device manager can't find drivers for my second usb port dead and windows 7 cannot detect my second usb port. I tried downloading drivers but no joy.
You can use the Diagnostic Tool on your Dell Product Support. Please click on the link below, stroll upward to Diagnostic, and then Choose A Diagnostic Test.
Hi, Before I was able to act on this, I was downloading some drivers from support and on restart the laptop crashed. had to initiate start up repair a number of times...
finally was able to start up using from a windows seven repair disc, did the F 2 operation and low and behold the service tag and express tags were missing..... I just cannot beleve my luck.
Therefore finally was able to download system detect and obviously, can't detect my system.
So did an F12 system full diagnostic and everything passed???
The left USB port... the one right next to the earthnet connection, has power as it lights up my perifial usb device but will not recognise anything connected to it. i.e. usb mouse. The other usb port works fine.
Tried system restore a number of times using different restore points and System restore failed each time.

Hi SPUDD57,
Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.
Please check with an external keyboard if you have the same issue.
Also, update chipset driver to the latest available driver from our Dell Support site.
Please private message us the service tag of the system along with the result from the above steps.
Regards,

You can use the Diagnostic Tool on your Dell Product Support. Please click on the link below, stroll upward to Diagnostic, and then Choose A Diagnostic Test.
www.dell.com/.../Products
You can also run Diagnostic by following the steps below. Please report any error codes
1. Turn off computer
2. Power on computer, quickly tap the F12 key continuously. You should see the Diagnostic screen

Hi Thanks for the input BUT:
Ist problem; can't use dell diagnostic tool...seems dell won't detect my xps; so can't use that.
2nd; unable to use xps diagnostic as my laptop key board or touch pad enter key won't work.
SO - i connected an external keyboard to the only working USB port. Ran full test everything passed test, apparently??
So xps keyboard still not working properly and Second Usb u/s.
