XPS 15 9530 Battery Problems

Hi, My laptop was just diagnosed with a swollen battery so I purchased a new one (through Dell) and set about replacing it with the little directions available. Replaced it fine, no problem. Plugged it into the adaptor and got five beeps. I’ve had this problem before and solved it by removing the battery and pressing the power button down to drain power or whatever it is. Tried that this time and nothing. Still beeping. Now I’m at a complete loss. I’m also baffled as to why the replacement part I bought from Dell didn’t come with any instructions whatsoever.

POLLOCKH ,

The 5 beep codes represent a failed cmos battery.

Real Time Clock (RTC) power fail
CMOS battery failure

Replace the battery. Below is a link to the online manual that provides information for removing/replacing parts within your computer.

Hi, if you read my original post carefully, you’ll see that’s literally what I was doing when this problem occurred. It’s a brand new battery  in my laptop right now.

Right, okay. And where can I find a replacement battery?

Wait, it’s just a regular battery I can buy anywhere?

It's not the main battery that's causing the beeps - it's the reserve battery (CMOS battery).

It's called a coin-cell battery (CR-2032).  See p. 28 of the owner's manual for instructions on replacing it.

Yes, it is just a button cell CR-2032 battery.

When I bought it at just a regular store it doesn’t have any of the wires to connect it. Can somebody please direct me to an online store where I can buy exactly what I need.

Yes either one of the first button cell batteries at the top of that page you posted will work.  Be careful taking your laptop apart, don't lose any little screws or forget where they go when rebuilding.  If the button cell battery is soldered on the board at all just take it to a laptop repair store near your home and get it done it's not expensive and it's a lot less work.  You could wreck it if you have to remove solder and resolder.  I did that once to an old Dell.  The button cell was soldered with wires like some of the ones in that link you posted, so I tried to remove the old wired button battery but when I put a new one on the solder wouldn't stick and I kept screwing up until it broke the connection completely and was beyond repair.  Ugh

I already removed the old battery fine, I’m looking to just buy a battery with all the wires attached because, yeah, the idea of ruining my laptop isn’t appealing haha. Any idea if the battery with wires and everything is available on that site I posted?
