Hi Jules,

Dell XPS M1330 has not been tested for Windows 7 64 bit version or Windows 8 Operating system. Consider installing vista drivers in compatibility mode.

Dell will not release new driver sets although as you mentioned the system is more than capable to handle the newer versions of Windows.

However I have listed a Windows 7 64 Bit compatible unofficial driver set for this model which you may find here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/driver-sets/xps-laptops/

For Windows 8.1 many more of the drivers are inbuilt however you may install the Windows 7 drivers listed with the exception to OS Updates and Dell System Software which don't apply to Windows 8.1. For Windows 8.1 you can also try the Synaptics driver from the XPS L421x/L521x: http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01770598M/2/TP_Synaptics_W814_X01_Setup-3CH58_ZPE.exe If that doesn't work you can try the driver from Synatics directly: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers I suggest using the Dell driver first because it may have some additional options like disable touchpad when a mouse is present.

Dell had released a pad driver for older laptops with Win 8. I found the reference searching on the web, not on Dell's site. Did eventually locate the driver on Dell's site, but don't hasve any record of the location. It worked

For Windows 7 32/64 Bit you might also want to try out the XPS 14 L421x touchpad drivers:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01172931M/1/Input_Driver_KW12X_WN_V16.2.21_A00.EXE 32 Bit

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01202611M/1/Input_Driver_HW44P_WN_16.3.7.0_A04.EXE 64 Bit

These might also likewise work slightly better than the generic driver but I haven't had anyone test them on that model yet.

Please post back results.

If you have it installed can you check the version in the device manager? It will help me locate the driver. From the looks of your systems your drivers should be Synpatics. I recommend trying the above 3 I listed.

However there are 2 major vendors of Touchpad for older hardware Synaptics and Alps.

I have the Dell Latitude D820 which has an Alps driver and the latest version I got to install was this version:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01255426M/1/Input_Driver_FGG85_WN_8.1200.101.214_A02.EXE

This version didn't install however:

Sorry, my laptops are not with me for a few months, and I can't find a written record for the driver. Try searching on the web.

I have Synaptics on one machine and Alps on the other. At one time I was able to use the wrong driver on the I1705.

Hello Ravich,

I am aware the laptop has VIsta drivers as it came with vista.  Can you please explain why Dell have chosen not to test drivers or list them on your website when providers such as Intel and Synaptics have made updates?  Would this not be of benefit to your customers?

Hello Dell,

I understand that (as I have looked at the website) and the laptop came with Windows Vista.  Many of the hardware providers have listed updated drivers, including Intel and Synaptics.  Why have Dell chosen not to list these on their website or test these drivers too it simple for consumers?

Thanks again, great post.

I tried the 64 bit version and it seems to install but I am not provided options to set 'two finger scroll' and can't see the synaptics software funning as I did under windows 7.  Do you know how to set 2 finger scroll, it seemed to just happen last time?

Thanks again

Jules

Thanks for the post!

I tried the driver from http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers without success, driver installation failed.  I contacted synaptics for a response.

Then tried the wireless http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/proset-ws/sb/CS-034041.htm without being able to find a new Win 8.1 driver that supported the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN again I have asked Intel for comment.  The wireless does work, it just fails after the computer is put to sleep or hibernate mode (drops connection and requires restart).

Thanks Jules.

Intel do not support Windows 8.1 on this wireless card but Microsoft have an inbuilt driver. It works fine on my system. So can I check how you installed Windows 8.1? If you have not done so via a clean install you can have the underlying problem you have experienced. See Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 8.1 for details:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/

The Synaptics driver I told you to attempt to install was from another model. Its a bit hit or miss if it works in your system as I haven't tried it out. Uninstall it and try:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01688137M/2/Touchpad_Synaptics_W8.14_A00_Setup-TNTNX_ZPE.exe version 17.0.8.0

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01759071M/9/Touchpad_Symaptics_W74_A00_Setup-VFYF7_ZPE.exe version 17.06.0

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01506531M/2/Input_Driver_84KVN_WN_16.4.0.4_A04.EXE version 16.4.0.4

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01484600M/12/Touchpad_Synaptics%20_W74_W84_X00_A01_Setup-5PJV7_ZPE.exe version 16.3.13.5

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER00956146M/3/Touchpad_Synaptics_W84_X11_A01_setup-JGY0F_ZPE.exe version 16.2.12.17

Go from highest version to lowest version and test them out. I think one of the versions should work however I think Dell/Synaptics might have removed support for older touchpads in the latest version.

As mentioned it works fine on my system with the inbuilt driver so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Okay I got a drop in wireless there similar to what you explained.

Try the following:

Thank you sooooooo much for your help!  The wireless card came good yesterday but I'm really not sure how.  Now I can get onto wireless networks again after hibernate, its great.  Thanks for the posts and the video!

Now just to get the 2 finger scroll working.
