XPS M1330 slows down when plugging in AC power adapter
Hi,
Sometimes when I switch from battery to AC power (when the battery is getting low), my XPS M1330 (running Vista home premium) slows down at the moment I plug in my AC power adapter. Even switching between windows with alt tab is terrible slow. Once I pull out the AC power, everything runs smooth again immediately. All I can do is hibernate and start up again to avoid this... Very annoying.
Strange enough this problem doesnt occur every time I have to plug in my power adapter. Furthermore it doesnt seem to matter which and how many applications are running and how much memory is being used.
Does anybody have the same problem or knows a solution? Its frustrating...
Thanks in advance

I have the same problem. if you open the task manager and just plug in the power cord the cpu usage goes through the roof... even with no other applications open.
I tried different setting with the power options to no avail.
Reboot is effective but come on... this is insane.

If you put the computer into sleep mode then wake it up the problem seems to subside.

I had a similar issue which manifested shortly after I had some other issues (computer would restart itself whenever I went to sleep, hibernate, or shutdown). In addition, the computer would usually not be able to identify the power adapter. It would power the system, but would not charge the battery. This also led it to slow down the CPU (check the event viewer for message about limiting cpu speed). If you can easily try using a different power adapter from a friend or co-worker, you could see if the adapter itself was bad. If you get the same results from a different power adapter, it could be a hardware issue.
I can't tell you exactly what solved the problem for me, because they swapped out the Adapter and the motherboard at the same time for me. Couldn't hurt to hop on to dell chat and see if they will send you a new adapter (if you are under warranty)

I have a Inspiron 1521 which does the same thing, I thought the power adapter was bad so i bought another and still have the problem , I have 2 different OS's Vista and Win7 and it happens in both, so its not a software setting issue either. Anyone else with these issues? Sometimes , like now it is so bad i can only use the computer on battery, will have to turn off and let it charge

I was able to solve my issue by using a Dell PA-10 90 watt adapter. Don't really understand why this worked since it was shipped with a PA-12 but it worked and I'm tired of trying to figure out why. Dell Sales kept telling me to order 65 watt replacement adapters and none worked. Hope this helps you.
