XPS M140 Graphics/Video Driver for Windows 7
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I cannot find a graphics driver that Dell support for my PC. I am using the Intel generic driver but it doesn't let me play video etc. I cannot determine with graphics card my PC has. Can anyone suggest a driver to use?

I upgraded my Dell XPS M140 to Windows 7 today. To get the right driver- go to control panel/adjust resolution/advanced- you will find an update driver button- Click it. Windows OS went online and identified the correct Intel 915GM driver and downloaded & installed it. I have a bright 1280X800 screen now. And my adapter shows the correct Intel drivers. Perhaps this driver has just appeared after a long wait. Good luck to all who are seeking the Intel 915GM driver for Windows 7- it does exist. I have the Aero style toolbar pop ups, too.

I just upgraded my system, but when I follow the path you describe here, I have no update driver button available. What version of Windows 7 are you installing? Did you have to select adapter or monitor properties in order to find an update driver button?

Well, I didn't write down notes, but I rechecked my sequence, and here it is in detail:
I went through montor properties, then click " advanced",, click- " properties", click- "driver", click- "update driver" button.

Thanks for the response. Even though I have the same system, when I tried that I got a message that I already had the latest driver - a generic driver of some kind. I'll just have to keep looking, I guess.

Don't give up, I got the same message the first few times I tried it, then a week later I tried it again and it worked.
My video adapter says- Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipst Family
driver date- 1/13/2007
version 6.14.10.4764
1280/800 resolution
this should help you find it!

I read your conversation and i did the exact steps that you guys did the OS is going online to check
and i am receiving the same message as you did "Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date" - Generic PnP monitor
My Question to you Sue is: Did you downloaded the driver from some place else/ or you kept trying with the update button till it finally found it?
Thanks in advance for your answers,

I did not get the update button to work. I had to search for the driver - think I got it on intel's site - downloaded it and installed it.

I am happy you found the video driver, Sue! That generic driver is the pits and now you can get back in the game and enjoy your XPS for many more years.

Did you download the one for XP?
Because when i open the one for Seven it goes to a page and it says- I quote Intel:
Will Intel release newer XPDM drivers for older graphics controllers?
Intel does not have plans to release newer XPDM drivers for the following older Intel graphics controllers:
I am asking you this because i already download and installed the XP one but it's not working for me
Thanks

Were you able to find the same version that Mark suggested in this conversation? That's the one I have.
Windows Aero doesn't work on mine, but everything else is good and I am able to get the resolution I need.
As I look through my materials, it seems I downloaded the driver from Dell's website. It is an Intel driver, and it is an XP driver. I don't believe there are any drivers for this graphics controller that have been released for either Vista or Windows 7. It could be listed under either Chipset or Video, unfortunately I don't remember. I just know I had trouble finding it,
I believe it's available on the Intel site as PV 14.25.50. You may also want to try PV 14.24 as there seems to be some kind of problem referenced on Intel's website with the newer one.

The lisiting said XP/Vista/Win7, worth a try, it's the 4764 version that wortked for me- the older 4704 may work, too.

The driver recommended is good and worked... but only for 10 minutes and then the picture went crazy... i guess my graphic/video card came to an end. It was doing the same thing running on XP when i run with a generic driver everything seems to be working fine, except that the screen resolution is max 1024 - 768, now it's doing the same with 7. But the advantage on 7 is that the new driver is working fine on 16 bit color and there is almost no difference with the 32 bit color option.
Anyways, thank you for your time and response

I just installed Win8 beta on this laptop and it works pretty good- the best resolution is 1024x768 -- I am still trying to find a better driver. I had to do a manual driver update -search internet- to activate the wifi networking.
