XPS M1730 missing system base driver in Windows XP

To anyone
I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro on my XPS M1730 laptop. I downloaded all the drivers from Dell website but I still have the exclamination marks in the device manager in the system base driver.
I installed the Intel Chipset but still has the exclamination marks in the device manager for system base driver.
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing or where can I download the correct driver to fix this issue.

Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem. I can't figure out what the device is so I can install the right drivers for it.

Anyone...HELP!!

Ha! I figured it out!

My chipset drivers were not installed. There are 2 sets of drivers for the M1730: the Ricoh drivers which handle the "Base System Device" and the Intel drivers which handle the SM Bus Controller.

I tried the Intel drivers first but I got an error. So, I installed the Ricoh drivers and that went well. Then I retried the Intel drivers and, viola! All my devices are installed now!

If you haven't already you also need to install the Dell Notebook System Software.

Notebook System Software (NSS) is a utility that provides critical updates and patches for your operating system. Install the NSS program to gain support for Dell 3.5-inch USB floppy drives, Intel Pentium-M processors, CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drives, Infrared (IR) communications, and USB devices. NSS is necessary for correct operation of your Dell portable computer. NSS automatically detects your computer and operating system and installs the updates appropriate for your configuration.
