The manual says it is a infrared remote control, but in fact I've nothing to verify it. Nothing came with the remote itself, it was just included in the package with the laptop.

You need to activate the infra red port on the laptop

Huhmm... i've been trying to look for that also, I don't see it in the device manager, and i can't find any info in the manual nor on the internet how to activate infrared, it always focuses on activating specific infrared devices...

Any words of advice?

The remote you received is not a Bluetooth remote, it is just shaped to fit the 54mm Expresscard slot for storage. This is an IR remote that controls the media controls and volume. I don't think there is a way to remap the keys to additional functions. To see if it is working point it at the IR sensor on the front of the laptop under the screen latch and then use the volume adjust button on the remote. This should change your MS master volume. The rest of the keys only work when you run a movie or music. (I haven't checked all of the various players - Itunes etc... but it does work with PowerDVD.)

If anyone can find the function panel for this remote to remapped the key it might be nice to know.
