Xps m1210 ram upgrade
hey guys
im running my xps 1210 with the standard ram of 1gb...my question is, im looking to upgrade ram and i know my 1gb is two sticks of 512mb...i was wondering if its possible if i use one 512mb stick and one 1gb stick? the main reason is because i can remove only one stick without opening the laptop, im afraid i might damage stuff IF i attempt to replace the other one...the manual seems very complex though i have blown dust out from my fan a couple of times...thanks
edit: one more q: if i was NOT to buy ram from dell, what kind of ram should i be looking for that would work for the xps? sorry for such a noob question but the 4200 and 5300 confuse me a bit...thanks again

I'm surprised to hear you don't have easy access to both sticks of RAM?
They're usually both accessible once you take the samll, individual cover off?
Anyways... as advised... it's always better to use two sticks of the same RAM - i.e. 2x 512MB/2x 1GB.
As shown here - your 1210 uses DDR II @ 667MHz RAM :smileywink:

Since you are running Vista SP1, you should be able to see all 4GB RAM. Here is what you can do:
1. Just take out the 2GB RAM at the back and boot it and see if you can boot it. If you can boot it to Vista, you should see that you have 2GB RAM inside.
2. If you are able to boot it fine, then put back the RAM and boot it again.
3. If you do not boot up from step 1, your front access RAM (i.e. pry open the meida key cover, loosen the 3 screws holding down the keyboard and open the keyboard) might be faulty, swap the RAM modules and try again.
