battery not detected

Hi , ive been using a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 for about 20 months now. Uptil a month back the laptop was working fine. Then it suddenly it has stopped detecting the battery. Once in a while it detects but then goes off again. I had taken it to a Dell store where they tried replacing the battery as the diagnostics showed a battery problem, but changing the battery also did not help. Is the problem related to Windows 8.1 upgrade? There were also some graphics problem after the upgrade but i managed to sort it out.

If the Dell diagnostics showed a battery problem and the replacement battery did not help, it could be the battery contacts on the bottom. While the system is powered off, battery is removed, and the charger is not plugged in, take a tooth brush and gently brush the battery contacts on the laptop as well as the battery. If that does not work it is most likely a motherboard problem.

Thanks a lot Brandon. Yes i tried that but still no good. If its a mother board problem then it shouldnt detect at all right? not on and off..like i said sometimes it detects and sometimes it doesnt. Currently i'm typing using the battery problem and not plugged in. Today when i tried to start my laptop it did not but i removed and reinserted and it started.

Hi,

1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, Click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes
