bios recovery needed
I have an xps 17 l792x and during a bios upgrade my computer bricked. I've done research and
found a lot of others have had the same occurrence. I've also tried a few methods to reboot
with a usb drive and cd rom. So far nothing has worked.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi sconda,
It is very unfortunate that the computer has failed after a BIOS update. Request you to follow the below steps and check if it works:
(1) Turn off the computer.
(2) Remove all the external peripherals from the computer like flash drive, Battery, AC Adaptor, etc.
(3) Press and hold the power button for 30sec (it releases the static on the computer, if present)
(4) Replace the battery, plug in the charger and let the computer get charged for few minutes.
(5) Now try turning on the computer.
If this doesn’t work, send me the system service tag through private message then I can check and let you know what needs to be done.
To send a private message, click on my name and select start conversation.

If the system is under warranty, Dell will replace the mainboard. if it's out of warranty, that'll be expensive -- you may be able to have a shop unsolder the CMOS chip, flash it externally and resolder it. That should run about $150 -- about half or less what a board replacement will cost.

Try here- this shop has a good reputation and the cost to have the chip reflashed will be half or less what a replacement board would cost.

This is the method I used to recover a damaged Phoenix BIOS on a Dell System - VERIFY YOUR SYSTEM HAS A PHOENIX BIOS
Download the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Program, version 1004 "CRISDISK.ZIP" from http://hotfile.com/dl/123908425/90fb20b/CRISDISK.zip.html
Extract the file and it will create a folder with 10 files
Download the needed Dell BIOS File from dell.com
Run the .exe to extract the file (note the location of the extracted folder)
Rename the extracted .ROM file in the extracted folder to "BIOS.WPH" and place it in the CRISDISK folder, over-writing the existing bios.wph file
1) Open the CRISDISK Folder on a computer running Windows XP, and run "WINCRIS.EXE", it will format and write the needed files to your USB flashdrive.
2) Eject and Remove the USB flashdrive.
3) Remove the battery and AC Power plug from your laptop
4) Plug the USB flashdrive into a USB port on your laptop
5) Press and hold "FN" and "END" keys with your fingers.
6) Plug the power adaptor into the back of your laptop, with your free hand.
7) You will notice the Power LED turn on and you'll need to hold the keyboard keys until you hear one beep..
7) Release the keyboard keys and then you'll start to hear a long series of beeps until the system reboots
8) You should now see the "DELL" logo and your system is alive again...
