RAM for this laptop is DDR2 and is now pricier than for the RAM for the current laptops.
I would personally not bother with upgrading anything unless you have access to cheap components.

Right.
$78 for 2GB of RAM versus 8GB of DDR3 for $40.
I have a Dual Core 2 CPU and 3GB on my D620 and I find it tolerable for XP, but I wouldn't spend $78 on D600 which is approximately the same era as my D400.

For some $78 is all they have to give their ancient dell a boost. I agree totally not worth it.
Higher Density modules are more than $40 for DDR 3 Sodimms however.
Just Got some Yesterday to upgrade one of my machines to 16 GB ram.
Crucial 16GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) CL9 SO-DIMM Laptop Memory Kit (Two 8GB Memory Modules) SKU: 060814 $299.99
