With LCD replacements, best bet is to get an IDENTICAL (same Dell part number) panel.
Next best, get another panel of the same resolution you now have - KNOWN to have shipped with this model of system. If your system has an ambient light sensor, be sure the replacement panel does as well. If it doesn't, DON'T buy one with a light sensor.
Otherwise, all bets are 100% off - LCD panels are not universally interchangeable. If you DO buy something other than an identical unit to what you have, you likely WILL need a new inverter (or converter) and very likely will need a new data cable as well.
If you're going to chance anything but an exact replacement - BE SURE you understand your seller's restock/return policy - you may well need it.
Also DO NOT assume that one studio 15 is the same as another - the 1525/6 are similar, as are the 1535/6. The 1545, 1547, 1564s are made by different suppliers for Dell - they MAY or MAY NOT use the same screens.
Thanks for the reply, sounds like this isn't as easy as I was hoping. How do you find the part number that I need, I might just google that and see what comes up? Is it written anywhere in the documentation?
hello again, I still haven't made up my mind what to do about this. There are other lcd screens with the same part number but they don't seem to be from the same laptop and they have a different resolution.
I saw this screen on this website, would it be ok to use this one?
man, I really wish this thing would just fix itself. When I'm in these situations I invairiably pick the wrong choice, it's a talent I've had since birth. You'd think that if the part number is the same that it'll work, it's kind of pointless having them otherwise.
ok, last question I promise! Do you know what kind of backlight are in these screens? There are two options available and they both have the same part number. The first is a led and the second is a diode, the led one is about twice the price of the diode.

It's on the label on the back of the LCD panel.

It's as safe as the vendor's willingness to take it back if it doesn't work -- unless it's identical to the original, it may not.

If they're both F414J they will interchange. Otherwise all bets are off.

ok, well if that's the case I'll just get one of the lcd screens with a lower resolution, the 1920x1080 one is too high anyway. thanks for the help

LED means light emitting diode - so they're both LED backlit. If the Dell part numbers are the same, so are the screens.

I figured that out alright, I contacted dell and they told me i have a ccfl screen so there are still variations even within the part number.
