Thank you for the response. Unfortunately this issue cannot be resolved by these instructions. Its quite straight forward how to use the docking station. I have used it before on many models of latitude including the e6500, e6510, 20, 30, and 40! The issue is that the dock connector is so close to the rear edge of the computer that the stand will not expand out far enough to accommodate it and Dell is yet to admit this or provide an alternate solution. I KNOW it ships with the plastic piece, but this piece has nothing to do with the issue. In your picture Robert, you show a blue arrow indicating the stand can expand to fit multiple sized laptops. It will not expand out far enough to accommodate the e5550. This is unacceptable as it is advertised as being completely compatible with "all existing e-series docking" solutions. We have purchased a great number of these stands and need a solution.
We did finally get this official response from Dell:
“The Dell E-View Laptop stand is not compatible with the new 15” 5000 Series Latitude Notebook. The docking connector was moved to the rear of the notebook on the new 5000 and 7000 series Latitudes. With this change there is not enough depth to fit a 15” notebook on the E-View stand. The E-View stand will support the new 12” and 14” 5000 and 7000 series Latitudes.”
It is ridiculous that we were not informed of this incompatibility for 15" before ordering. Apparently everyone will need to use the 14" model now...
The E-View Stand will accomodate laptops up to 17inches. Both the battery size adjustment can move to accomodate an extended battery and the laptop size adjustment will extend the "feet" out as well.
Great! Why do they feel the need to change something as simple as where the replicator port is, and then not even offer an alternative to make some more money!
Annoyingly I only asked that the laptops we ordered, must fit the e-port replicator. Didn't think the stand would be an issue! I might carry on looking into whether the stand comes apart to remove the sliding tray, and if there would then be enough support for the laptop.
Out on interest did you order a different stand for your laptops, or are they just sitting on the desk?
Just been caught out by this too - again, requested ePort dock compatibility in the new laptop only to find out that yes, it's compatible with the ePort, but not when you put it on the eView stand!
I've ended up removing the springs from one of the stands so the legs are always extended - that way you can JUST squeeze the laptop onto the dock, but it's far from ideal!
I think the recommended solution now is the Dell Wireless Dock, but that's a LOT more expensive and also means moving away from one standard on every desk! Not much point having the dock compatibility if it's not really compatible!
I couldn't figure out how to get the slider off completely without breaking it, so I had to leave it in place! Thought about cutting the feet off, but when you've spent so much on the laptop, stand and dock, you don't feel like you should have to do that!
We ended up removing the screws and taking the slider from the stand right off! Half the laptop dangles off the stand... We've since switched (pretty much by force) the 14" model which IS dockable on the stand.
Haha, Yes our first thoughts were to cut the feet off too, but then again we didn't want a "broken" stand in the future. There a lot of small clips and screws, but after about 30 minutes of struggle, the slider was finally off... The stand had to be screwed back together again afterwards. It really wasn't worth the effort!
Every workspace in our company is equiped with E-Port/Views and logically we only buy Dell notebooks with E-Port Interfaces. We just bought three E5550 for our administration department and it has took a while til I figured out that the E5550 really don't fit into the E-Port/View combination - I couldn't believe it.
The E-Port/View support for many Dell notebooks always was a major reason for Dell in our company! Other manufacturers also make good notebooks but nobody has similar accessories in their portfolio.
We had the same problem with 3 5550 notebooks and made quite a problem with our Dell account manager until they finally admitted it was a designflaw! And told us that they wouldn't try to fix it, just too bad! In the end they made us a deal where we got € 600,- in return in total. We could keep the notebooks, ofcourse, but ever since we have a problem finding a dockable 15,6" Dell notebook that's not as expensive as the E6540. Dell made a very bad impression with us, especially without giving a good alternative or a solution for the stand.
Here's how I fixed it for us. Remove the plate with the fences (2 or 3 screws). Cut away the plastic as I marked with the red line on both sides but keep a small rest as a fence. At last adhere the plate with a strong glue.
This is (IMHO) the easiest way an it works perfect (but looks ugly, of course).
Kudo's for trying to fix it that way, but I can't sell that solution to our customers. Dell should create an adapter or something that doesn't destroy the stand and leave any E-notebook the possibility to dock with the replicator and stand, but that isn't going to happen in my life I guess.
An adapter would be nice... something that extends the location of the e-port to the old placement so that these laptops can dock. We're just stuck with the 14" until the next generation of Dell laptops which will hopefully correct this bizarre oversight on their part.

Did you ever get a resolution for this, as we have now come up against the same issue?

Hi Attitude7,
Thanks for posting.
The E-View Stand will accomodate laptops up to 17inches. Both the battery size adjustment can move to accomodate an extended battery and the laptop size adjustment will extend the "feet" out as well.
Here is how you can adjust it:

Does Dell intend to manufacture a compatible stand for this product. We all know it doesn't work. don't state the obvious
