Never got a response. My resolution was to ignore it. Haven't needed the serial port lately, but will for a project I'm slated to work on a little down the road. Hopefully I'll be on win7 by then.
I have heard that this problem can be resolved by installing the drivers for the AMT HECI and AMT SOL/LMS found in the Chipset category at this page: E6500 Drivers.
Thank you for this post. You are spot on! I had the systemboard replaced due to my laptop not powering on off of a fully charged battery. After the board was replace, the power on worked fine; however, I was prompted everytime for the PCI Serial port and PCI Simple Communications Controller drivers and couldnt figure out for the life of me what they were associated with. After downloading and installing your suggestions, those now work and no more prompting.
