express card port

Hello,

My XPS 15 doesn't have any Firewire port or express card port, and I would like to do video editing. For that I have to connect my camera via a Firewire cable to my computer.

I don't find any solution to connect a Firewire cable to my computer, but I can't believe it's impossible to connect this cable on a XPS 15 !

What is the solution please ?

Yakari03,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You would need to connect your firewire to the usb. Below are some links that will help you with this issue.

There simply is no way to connect firewire to this system - you either need a different system (many business-class models do have firewire) or you need to replace the device with a USB version.

Firewire is a dying technology that even Apple isn't going to support much longer (and it invented the technology).

Thanks for your answer.

But I think these adapters do not exist on the market. I searched for hours without finding one. It would be outrageous that Dell produces computers labeled media unless there is a way to connect a Firewire cable...

Unfortunately the Maker of the USB to firewire cable Pixela got sued and is no longer making them.

Thanks a lot ejn63 and speedstep.

How come they stop this production ??!! I think I'm not the only one with this problem ...

Is it possible to modify my motherboard to include an express card port ?

Your three choices:

1.) buy a PC with Firewire port

2.) buy a PC with ExpressCard to allow for Firewire card

3.) DVD recorder with Firewire port

Users here do not answer for other companies.

It is not possible to modify the motherboard to include the express card slot.

Ok thank you for answering so quickly :)

And is it possible to connect the camcorder to an external hard drive with firewire port, and connect it to my computer via USB 2.0 ? So with the video software I have on my computer can I import video from my camcorder?

Some camcorders can stream video over USB - unfortunately, most that have firewire ports, cannot.

My Panasonic which has Firewire can stream over USB, but in that setup, according to the owner's manual, the camcorder is acting like a webcam. I don't know whether it is possible for the camcorder to stream from video that is already on the videotape.
