kovas,

You should mention your laptop model.

Here are some general suggestions.

1.Open Audio Properties (right click on the volume icon on the taskbar, or go through the control panel, Sound & Audio Devices). Select the Audio tab. Click on 'Volume' under 'Sound recording'. Select microphone as the recording source.

2. Click on 'Advanced' under the microphone select box. Uncheck the mic boost box.

3. Lower the volume on your external source device.

4. If you still get the noise go back to 1 and lower the mic recording volume.

5. If your recording program has input level meters use them to help keep the level under 0db.

6. If your laptop model has a built in microphone, try to turn it off. From some of the posts here it seems that can be difficult to do sometimes.

7. The mic jack is mono but you are probably using a stereo plug. Try seating it differently, maybe just halfway in.

If you know all of this then sorry for stating the obvious.

Good luck, Jim

I have discovered that connecting pa heads, guitar processors, ect into my line in causes incredible interfierence to be recieved so i cannot record like that... it seems to only happen when i plug big sutff into it.... when i plug my mp3 player into it it only occurs if i am touching the mp3 player with my hand....the only way i get around this problem is to buy an mp3 player with a line in ... use it to record stuff.... then put it on my laptop.... very strange.... oh yea it happens if i plug my pa head, amp ect into the headphone jack (line out) to listen from my laptop through my external stuff too... very strange.... i even pick up radio stations!!!

oh yea small objects like my mp3 player being plugged into the line in doesnt cause the terrible noise but adjusting the processor speed or setting it on max battery lessens it, very strange

i got a very good deal from

AsenaShop

on the mobiBLU DAH-610 256MB Digital  MP3 Player

for only $119.95 including shipping the $ucker has 256megs of memory, a built in fm radio, built in mic for recording, line in for recording, ability to record directly to mp3 from radio or from line in, ability to use for data storage,

it came with usb cable, strap, neck strap, case, headphones, adjustable EQ, instruction manual, and remote (even though it didnt say it came with it and when i emailed them about it because the box showed it as optional and they told me it wouldnt in their reply it still came with it anyway!) and batteries

the thing is very small and runs off of 1 tripple A battery http://www.asenashop.com/sfitem/id-7020

unfortunatly i got the last one in stock but more may be coming in
