If your model number is L511z it comes with Intel HM67 chip and two memory slots.
It supports Maximum Memory of 16GB @ 2x8GB configuration DDR3 1333MHz.

Did you try to install 16GB on the laptop and it didn't post? I would like to know what's the memory specs are you using on L511z.
There are L511z selling on ebay has 16GB rams:
www.ebay.com/.../i.html
Here's the result from kingston.com max 16GB:

I don't have a XPS 15z so maybe you are right. I have a asus A53E on the asus specification it says max ram is 8GB but I am using 16GB with i5 dual core cpu just fine.

Hi javabus,
We would test the system at our labs before its release and the maximum memory supported as per the test is 8GB.
