inspiron 1521 SM Bus Controller and Video Controller Driver files needed (XP 64 bit)
I am reinstalling an inspiron 1521 and the dell drivers for this PC are not on the dell website for this model. Is there another model that will work? I spent the day yesterday looking for them and am getting frustrated. Your help is greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Doug

If you're installing 64-bit XP, you may be out of luck. Driver support for it is very, very thin - Dell never shipped it on this system. If there are no Microsoft drivers, try ATI to see what they have (the chipset and video are both ATI).

How about 32 bit windows. It might take me less time to do the reinstall. I think that I got the 64 from the CPU chip which is an AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile. Technology TL-56. But you are right, the Microsoft Windows XP Professional does not say 64 bit. So I was wrong.

For the Dell inspiron 1521 the correct driver for the VGA Graphics Adapter is dell R163694. (Windows XP 32 Bit).
We are making progress!
Now I just need the one for the SM Bus.
Any ideas?

Hi I have managed to get all the drivers together for the Dell Inspiron 1521 including the SM Bus Controller, Graphics and Audio drivers.
I have uploaded all the drivers downloaded from the credible sources required for a 32bit install of MS Windows XP Home or Professional.
The complete drivers zip is 408MB
Short Link: http://db.tt/dydLkMa
Long Drop Box URL: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4383606/Dell%20Inspiron%201521%20Drivers%20XP%2032bit.zip
The usual blurb... :emotion-1:
Although these files were obtained from credible sources (Dell inc, ATI, AMD). I can certify the zip file Virus and Malware free at point of upload. However although I have done my best to ensure the quality of the download it is recomended that you scan the content yourself. I do not own the rights to the content of this download and am simply re-distributing the content and am not responsible for any damages encored as part of this download and installation.
includes:
- ATI Mobile Radeon Express driver. (10-02_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc\setup.exe)
- AMD South Bridge SM Bus Controller Driver. (11-2_xp32-64_sb.exe)
- Audio SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major Audio Driver (R171789)
- Chipset Richo Driver (R141246)
- LAN NIC Broadcom 440x Driver (R149798)
- Touchpad Synaptics Driver (R155586)
- Conexant D330 Modem Driver (R167368)
- Wireless LAN - Dell WLAN 1370, 1390, 1395 Drivers (R174291)
- Webcam Integrated Driver (R173082)
- Webcam Manager Application (R160320)
- DVDRW Firmware Update TS-L632H (R250068)
- BIOS Update Dell Model Inspiron 1521 BIOS Rev_A06.exe
- Dell Support Center Application (R210377)
Hope this helps the Dell inspiron 1521 community and people with similar models.
Cheers B.

Ok..hopefully can find them as I'm a newbie..do they need to be installed in a certain order?
Also, this may be a stupid question but I find that I sometimes have trouble if Windows hasn't completely updated before I start installing drivers but I need certain drivers to access the internet and update Windows so I'm stuck in a loop. Any advice?

I've seen that list a million times and it doesn't seem to help. Half of those things aren't listed/needed for my computer and I don't know how to tell. The only one I'm still looking for is the SM Bus Controller driver. Can't seem to find it, even on the AMD website.
