m6300 performance issues with 90w adapter
it's taken me awhile to figure this out, but I see a significant decrease in system performance using a 90watt adapter. I travel quite a bit and hauling that large, heavy 130 dell power adapter shaped like a brick is difficult when coupled with the weight of the m6300. will need to hire a sherpa when I haul both. So I purchased a lighter weight smaller footprint aftermarket 90w adapter to travel with. I couldn't figure out why my VM's were suddenly running significantly slower, but after doing some troubleshooting I've found that the difference is in the adapters.
Is there a bios setting that I can flip to get the system to perform at the level of the 130w adapter while using the 90w adapter?

why is this so? isn't the system running off of the battery, and the adapter charging the battery? what difference should it make to the system? if the battery goes low while running the laptop hard off the 90w adapter then you should follow the normal use case, get the low batt warning and either reduce system load or the system will shutdown.
Is there any documentation in the user manuals that point this 'feature' out?

Hi MikeD187,
Welcome to the Community,
There is no setting in BIOS that can be changed to make system perform better while using 90w adapter. For the system to perform normally 130W adapter is the minimum requirement.
Thank You,
Roshan

Hi Mike,
When you've the charger plugged into the system,it is not only charging you battery but also running your system.Your battery will continue to charge and not discharge till you unplug your charger.Only when the charger is unplugged the battery power is used to run the system, hence the battery starts discharging.
In the owners manual under Specifications for AC Adapter it says "NOTE: For optimum system performance, always use a 130-Watt adapter. Using less powerful AC adapters may cause you to receive a Warning message and may also cause your computer to experience a degradation in performance.
Thank You
Roshan
