orange battery light

i have a dell inspirion 6000...i've had it for about 2 years. i have had to replace the battery last year when the battery recall came about. so i've only had this new battery for about a year, if that.
yesterday i unplugged my laptop from the power chord because it was done charging. Immediately following, the battery light turned to orange, not flickering, just a solid orange.
i checked the power options tab under the control panel. it recognizes the ac adapter, but it says under how much power i have left: unknown.
it will run with the orange light on for a short time, possibly twenty or so minutes, and then it will power off.
it will still run when plugged into the ac adapter, the battery light flashes green, which is the usual indicator, i think, that your battery is done charging...but i don't know.
and i checked the actual battery itself, and did the LED light test...and all five lights show green. which makes me wonder if the problem is my battery or not???

sorry to be so descriptive, just giving you all the facts. i would appreciate if you had any suggestions for me, as i would like to avoid sitting on the phone with dell for hours while they try to figure it out :) haha. thanks!

If the battery does charge and operate, it is likely the battery that is at fault.

In the keyword search bar at the top right of this page type in:

What do the battery LEDs on my Dell portable system indicate?

Choose the first article--that will give you the info you need complete with a picture of that flashing battery indicator.

A steady orange indicator is a battery failure.  Replace it.
