unable to write to ini files

I'm using some educational software that writes to several ini files to monitor progress levels - however windows 7 does not allow me to write to these files despite being an administrator. The laptop is a vostro 3500. Any ideas please?

Is the software compatible with Windows 7?

it's a 32bit programme operating in a 32bit environment - I've checked the permissions and they allow full write access.

It may be 32-bit software in a 64-bit operating system that's the problem - or it may be pemissions with the files themselves (you can check those under Properties for the file(s) by right-clicking on them.  Look for the security tab.

Are these local files, or on a fileserver?  If they're local, are any shares set?  If they are, do the share and NTFS permissions conflict?

Who owns the files?  What user is writing to them?
