I suggest you check if the ‘Sony camcorder’ is getting detected in the device manager. To know how to check in the device manager, kindly follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open the ‘Device Manager’ by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type ‘Device Manager’, and then, in the list of results, click ‘Device Manager’.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. You will find your ‘Sony camcorder’ listed under ‘Imaging devices’ or ‘Universal serial bus controllers’ if  it’s connected to your computer using the USB port.
3. If it’s not listed. Please reconnect the ‘Sony camcorder ‘and check under which section the camcorder is listed.
4. If it’s not getting detected then the issue may be with the ‘port’, ‘cable’ or ‘Sony camcorder’.
5. Please check it on different port on the computer or different cable or check the device on different computer.
6. If there is an exclamation mark under ‘Unknown devices’. Please uninstall by right clicking on the device and then re plug in the ‘Sony camcorder’.
7. Install the Sony camcorder using the cd’s given by Sony.
