Try removing your sound devices out of the Device Manager, and let Windows redetect them again. Maybe your WAV device got deleted? If you have the audio drivers in seperate download(s), run them. You can probably find the seperate drivers on Dell's driver downloads area of your computer's model. If you have the option of uninstalling the drivers first, do it, then re-install.
Here's what my own Device Manager sound devices looks like:
Have you tried downloading and installing the codec from the site that is listed in the message box?
And how did you get that image in your post? I tried html to access an image from my website but it didn't work.
Alright, I tried what you said, and still no luck. Running dxdiag.exe I get
this error message. This is what my device manager shows, maybe there is something missing:
Have you re-installed the Sigmatel drivers yet?
That might not resolve your problem but it is a basic step because there is no sure way to tell whether the drivers have become corrupted.
I've reinstalled the driver a few times. I've installed it manually, as well as letting windows install it on it's own. I've pretty much figured that the driver is not corrupted, unless the one provided on dell's website and on my recovery CD are both corrupted.
You said the program wasn't playig wav files. Is this also so for any other program? What about the wav files in the Media directory in the Windows folder?
I tired your suggestion and it did not work. Strangely enough,
this file works, but
this file does not. I was hoping that codec pack would work, but I've been downloading codecs for the past few days now without any luck.
Are there any other suggestions? I'll be troubleshooting in the meantime.
Every program says pretty much the same thing. Windows Media Player says that there is a missing codec, Winamp displays the file in the playlist and then does nothing at all, and iTunes shuns the file completely. The .wav files that are included with Windows do work (Startup, shutdown, etc) as well as a few .wav files I rendered using Sonc Foundry Acid Pro 4 and Nero WaveEditor. Strangely enough, they weren't working a while ago. However, the .wav files the were included with Fruity Loops 6 still refuse to play.
Looks like its a DIVX Audio codec. Go here and download the codec pack. It should take care of the problem.
