xps m1330 riched20.dll
i have had this peculiar problem and it has cropped up quite randomly after about 3 months of smooth usage of my xpsm1330.
here is the error message i am getting:
Sysfader: (program name) (comes for multiple programs) - bad image
C:\windows\system32\riched20.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
now this started coming after i think i did this:
whenever i try to open a program which includes gtalk or yahoo messenger and a host of other programs this error comes up. doesnt come for opera browser. also an error comes when windows logon screen comes..this has started coming after i installed the update of dell 4.7_media direct 3.3. then i opened media direct and after that the problem has been coming every time i try to login to windows vista. its like half the computer is working and the other half isnt.
i have tried all this and nothing seems to work:
realised the dll file could be corrupt so downloaded the effected dll file riched20.dll and tried to copy it into the system 32 folder but windows wont allow it even in safe mode. and i did it using administrator. then tried to run system restore but system restore just wont open. every possible thing that i could try i have tried.
can anyone who has faced a same problem or not help me out. am left flabbergasted as to what could be the
problem. i dont even know is there any other way other than reinstalling vista.
any help is highly appreciated. thanks

Do you have up to date antivirus, and have you scanned the system thoroughly?

From here:
"Riched20.dll is a file of Microsoft Outlook.
The riched20.dll library is used by windows applications to allow for the formatting of text in an editor.
If you receive a riched20.dll error [Using Outlook 2000], you will need to rename riched20.dll to Riched20.old [and run the Office 2000 repair tool].
After the repair process, the error message should disappear."
I've modified it slightly, but the original 'How to' rename it, can be found here:
Search for the Riched20.dll file, right-click it, then click Rename in the shortcut menu.
Rename the .dll extension to .old.
Whilst those relate specifically to Outlook... the suggestions may work for you/in Vista?

alright guys...problem has been solved...
firstly i had done a complete scan of my system nothing was found. now how was it solved...tried all methods to rename files and copy into system32 folder but was just not able to do it.
so at startup pressed f8 went to an option of startup repair and there is an option of command prompt. used to it copy
the file and it was done beautifully. hehe
the command prompt inside vista wont work.
this is the only way to do it or to use it using a dos diskette or a bootable disk.
basically shouldnt be logged onto windows..
however one question remains unanswered. as to how this problem actually cropped up in the first place...any
answers to that?
please note: there was one file which i had downloaded from the net and copied but that solved only half the problem
2nd time round copied the file from the recovery partition and everyhting was as good as new...
thanks everyone for ur support.
