by serial number i mean to have the manufacturer serial number or serial number by EMC.

Hi Rohit can you please explain what do you mean with "Serial number" ?? Are you talking about the WWN ??

And can you please be more specific with "unix flavours" you have ??

Agree with Dynamox and would like to add for Solaris hosts, look in /var/adm/messages file for the last time the host booted, as the HBA's initialize their WWN's are listed.

Alternately, if you know which ports the HBA's are attached to on the switch, it might be easier to just list all initiators from the switch side.

I am not aware of any way to get the serial number of the card from the software besides Emulex's own software.

Other option is to pop each server open and peer inside...

that is not going to happen as these servers are in production and i am not allowed to touch those servers physically also.

so i need some other way to get the details .

i have those HBA's from emc supported. need to know from anyone on the same so that i can check it with the customer tomorrow and get the serial number.

wwn number i can get from fcinfo command. i have those details or if i run emcgrab on these servers i can get the wwn information.

but my concern is for the Serial numbers.
