symmetrix inquiry commands not working
Hi all,
On the aix host most of symcli commands are working like sympd , symdg , symcfg but
About inquiry commands like syminq , syminq ¿sym are not working ..what¿s the problem
Do I need to install inq utitilty for that ..it comes with symcli right????
See here if I type syminq it takes me to next command prompt without giving any result..

how it comes it saying no gate keepers on this host ..see sympd list output here 2 of them are 5MB they are gatekeeper devices not hdisks for storage..
because i have 2 volumegroups , in both (lsvg -p XXX) i found all hdisks except these hdisk16 & hdisk17 so those are GK's right host seeing those devices but here I need to name those as gate keeper devices with some command or what

symgate define pd /dev/dsk/cXtXdX
in your case /dev/rhdisk16 and /dev/rhdisk17

Look at the rightmost part of your prompt (also called PS1). The rightmost char is a ">" that is also a "command" .. a command that will render your file empty.
I think that someone corrupted your syminq command with a bad "cut and paste" inside the terminal.
You can try the following:
/----PS1----\
host:/tmp > echo "hello world" > hw.txt
host:/tmp > ls -l hw.txt
Please note the size of the file hw.txt. Now issue the following "command":
/----PS1----\
host:/tmp > > hw.txt
host:/tmp > ls -l hw.txt
Note the new "size" of the file. Have fun reinstalling S.E.

server1/root: /usr/symcli/bin > lspv

hdisk6 000914579fb9acb4 rootvg active
hdisk16 none None
hdisk17 none None

is these devices are not active any problem before defining them as gatekeeper devices but below shows us the devices are for server1
server1/root: /usr/symcli/bin > sympd list

/dev/rhdisk17 0030 13A:1 01B:D0 2-Way Mir N/Grp'd RW 5
here I have to do following steps
symmaskdb backup ¿file XXXXx
symgate define pd /dev/rhdisk16
symgate define pd /dev/rhdisk17
symmask refresh
need to reboot the host ?????
I think this solve my GK device problem right ?? and syminq utility I forgot to say I run that ./inq.aix64_51
At /usr/dir1 not at /usr/symcli/bin path so I need to run that one at /usr/symcli/bin
Is this fix my syminq problems ?
Or only way i can recover from this issue is reinstall SE ??
EMC support asking me to fix myself by suggesting some previous emc solution numbers emc 91997 & some other
Thank you ¿

I don't think you have a gk problem ..
I think that a bad cut & paste destroyed your syminq executable. That's it.
First of all fix your Solution Enabler istallation .. You have a broken "syminq" file so please correct it at first .. And send me (delcorno underscore stefano at emc dot com) the number of the SR you opened.
I think that reinstalling S.E. is the first step before talking about GK problems. You need a working S.E. If it's possible, follow dynamox's suggestion to copy a working syminq from another host with the same S.E. version .. Or uninstall and reinstall S.E. on the host.

I'm pretty curious .. where does the 2 volumes came from ?? They look like good old gatekeepers (small size, 2-way-mir) .. but they are simply "the wrong size"
Is your box a DMX3 ??
