Dell Mobile Connect

In March I had to reinstall Windows 10 due to my error when editing the registry. I had Windows professionally reinstalled.

After that, I was no longer able to use Dell Mobile Connect. Yesterday I discovered that when my Windows 10 was reinstalled they used an HP version, not Dell. That would explain why I keep being rejected when trying to install Dell Mobile Connect.

How can I change my software identity to show it as a Dell Inspiron 3671 so I can reinstall Dell Mobile Connect?

@RoHe  thank you for bring that in

I copied the path from my machine, My bad.

@Papa David

Please open REGEDIT and Navigate to this key

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Store"

Double Click on StoreContentModifier and change value to Dell_Inspiron

Reboot and try to install DMC

if not fixed.

Try these steps.

Open run > services.msc

Look for Windows management Instrumentation service, if it's not running, Run it

Run Command prompt as administrator

wmic path win32_computersystemproduct get manufacturer

If command is not recognizing  your model and gives you an error

Run WBEMTEST > It will open windows management instrumentation tester Click on Connect it successful than try reboot and install DMC. It it gives you an error, Close it.

Stop Windows management Instrumentation service,

Delete content from C/windows/system32/wbem/repository

Restart windows management instrumentation service

Run WBEMTEST and hit connect again

This should revalidate your model name

Try to install DMC again

Last Option is OS REINSTALL

Open Command Prompt as admin and paste these 2 commands one by one. Reboot and try again,

REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Store" /v OEMID /f /t REG_SZ /d DELL

REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Store" /v StoreContentModifier /f /t REG_SZ /d DELL_ALIENWARE

Thanks. I added the commands and checked the registry to confirm that they were added. I then restarted Windows. However, when I try to install Dell Mobile Connect I still get "This device does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

Than I suspect that HP image would have been heavily customized.

Still it's not too late, reinstall OS using Dell's stock image

Use this tool to download the image on a Flash drive and than reboot from it using F12.

Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it. I would rather not reinstall the OS so I'll just live without Dell Mobile Connect.

@Papa David   Don't know why you would edit the registry with a key that says "Alienware", since Alienware PCs get a customized version of Mobile Connect that requires Alienware drivers which you don't have...

@Papa David  Before you make any more changes, please do yourself a BIG favor and manually create a System Restore point for protection.

Or better yet, image your boot drive and save that image on external media (USB HDD).  You can use Macrium Reflect (free).

I would like to thank you all for helping me solve the problem. Changing to "Inspron" did the trick. I also changed to "Inspiron" in the configuration portion of "Store."
