How do I use the Internet without Admin password?

You might want to skip to "Question:" below.

Pre-amble:

After Win 7  full factory reset from DVD to a new HDD, and not able to avoid Dell's bloatware, I tried to access the 'net.

  1. The Dell default Internet Explorer (v. 8.0.7600.16385) start page web site is MSN:
    1. Typing any address in URL results in generic cop-out "cannot display web page" and blames it on cable, modem..... yadda yadda. IF it were any of those, MSN, BING, or Yahoo or similar search trackers wouldn't load... but do.

  2. No matter what I try in url, except for search engines(AKA stalkers), I get a "cannot load page".
Example, if I type dell.com, dell.ca, http:///www., or https:// I still get cannot load page. BUT, it loads search engine(?) pages. Will NOT open any links there either.

  3. When installing Dell's re-worked  Win 7 O/S, a pop says I need to restart, but I wait as Dell's stuff is popping up DOS windows (AKA Command Prompt AKA Power Shell), adding items to the registry. When that is settled down, I did a manual Restart. Then Dell popped up stuff so fast most are not readable but of the 5 - 6 popups, there was reference to restoring Mail, restoring... restoring... all unknown non-requested unnecessary -stuff-.

  4. This was SUPPOSED be a full factory install, not anything restored from nothing to restore!

Unable to access the Internet, except those places Dell pre-populated as OK, I did another full factory restore.
Same thing, limited access to Internet. Unable to get Win 7 fixces, patches and Service packs.

Question:

How do I do a full factory reset without Dell insisting on limiting access to Internet?

Details:

During the restore to factory, Dell set up wanted a password after user name, I skipped that useless extra unnecessary login step and just put in a user name. NOTE: With the old HDD, this use to work without a login password.

Dell tried several time to force me to install the Dell Affiliated McAfee trial - a bullet I dodged.

Dell tried to force the Dell backup system - couldn't dosage that one but it's already backed up! What ever!

I've a feeling it may have something to do with Dell's certificate manger taking over for people who can't think. But it won't let me get far enough to update I.E., or get a real browser, or get the patches and fixes for 7.

I cannot download anything, not even set up existing email.

I cannot update(oxymoron) Win 7 through any normal channels. Not via Control Panel (and that update method is obsolete anyway).

Yes:

  • I have admin access.
  • I do not need a Microsoft account to use my computer. Avoided that trap too.
  • Cables are connected and router is not blocking anything untoward. If it were any of the generic 'blame the user', MSN, Bing or Yahoo wouldn't show results, results that cannot load.
  • Comp worked well before HDD began to fail - no password needed, no probs with Internet.
  • Have not yet removed Dell bloatware so it is as pristine as Dell wanted it to be at factory reset.
  • Clicking Windows Update" via Control panel errors out too with no Internet connection.

Here's a laugh. When clicking the I.E. "Diagnose connection problems" I get back "A problem prevented the troubleshooter from starting".  Goes beyond stupid - way beyond.

Help!

Always include exact PC model in your posts.

You can probably save yourself from all that grief as long as you know or can read the Windows 7 Product Key sticker on the PC. You can download the Win 7 ISO file directly from Microsoft for free and create a bootable USB stick to do a clean install sans bloatware, etc.

If it were me, I'd start over...

It's not the bloatware. I DID start over, as I pointed out, more than 4 times now. With old drive a slave, and 7 installed on the new drive, windoze cannot accept, nor see the slave.

One thing of note is, that this comp, exact model has no bearing on this issue. As I said, 7 worked fine until the drive started to fail. I've been using comps since 1983.  The model, though it has Sata connectors on the MoBo, had no Sata cables from the power supply. Brilliant! It's why someone at Dell shoved 2 EDI to Sata adapters in it.

For what it's worth, it's a  Inspirion 560 - same version that shipped with faulty Intel drivers.

Hello?  Any one?  Ooops - forgot. Warranty ran out - ergo the echo. Bye Dell - Buy HP.

Installing without the resource disk means that there is no internet because NIC drivers are not installed.

That is VERY odd! As I pointed out, I.E. CAN access MSN, Bing, Google, just not any of the search results. All without a NIC care huh.

FYE:

  1. Without a NIC, there is zero Internet. Not just part of it.
  2. The sites that could NOT be accessed is because I.E. has been banished by downgrades (AKA upgrades, improvements to stalkware, moved icons, more bandwidth - less truth).

I get it. You're in a hurry, but you really should try to read what people post. I also get it, some don't put enough in, and when we do, it's skipped over by assumptions of the first line. Go figure.

Thanks anyway,

I have sorted the problem out - nothing to do with NICs.  I.E. was a casualty too.
