Inspiron 24-5459 CPU upgrade?

Possible to upgrade my CPU in my Inspiron 24-5459 from a i7-6700t to a i7-6700? Mostly concerned about the BIOS working or not.

No to the 7700 -- that's a completely different generation CPU.

No to the 6700 - it is a 65W CPU -- your system is designed for the 6700T, which draws 35W.

as for the 35 vs 65 watt thing. cant i just use a 160watt or bigger psu  instead of the 130?

I would not make that assumption - more likely, you'll find the mainboard isn't designed with voltage regulators sufficient to supply the higher-power CPU -- and the case isn't designed to dissipate the added heat.

This is essentially a notebook computer stuffed behind a monitor - the constraints are very different than they would be for an ordinary desktop system.

Well considering there is a provision for NVIDIA GeForce 930M discrete graphics which would use approximately 20-30 watts. I would assume the board should be ok. And as for the cooling. I have a hole cut in the back and am also going to install a custom aio cooler. So heat is not the issue. And I dont think power is an issue. What I'm worried about now is the BIOS...

Doing so won't upgrade the CPU voltage regulator, which isn't designed to handle the extra 30W, either.

It's not the total power consumption that's the issue - it's that the board in the system is designed for a low-power CPU -- even if the BIOS isn't an issue, the voltage regulator will be.
