Inspiron 3670, WiFi 5G connectivity

Jump to solution

I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 3670 desktop computer and i find it cannot find my 5G WIFI signal. I am somewhat surprised and baffled as the old computer i replaced which was 5 years old could detect it and connect.

I have checked my radio types and they are as below.

802.11b 802.11g 802.11n

Has anyone any idea how to sort this as i am very disappointed that i cannot use the extra speed after buying what i thought would be an up to date computer which would have this accessibility.

Many Thanks

One more thought...Assuming the 5 GHz WiFi card in your old PC is compatible with an available slot on the Inspiron 3670 motherboard, and with Win 10, you could uninstall the existing card in Device Manager and physically remove it, and then install the old card and load it's drivers.

RoHe is correct, in this Inspiron 3670, the installed DW1707 is single band 2.4 GHz only. An external USB dual band WiFi is the easiest alternative.

I'm sorry, I'm unable to retrieve the system information with the Service Tag you've shared. Could you verify it for me?

Very simple answer:

You have an 802.11bgn WiFi card. You need an 802.11ac WiFi card to use 5 GHz (and 2.4 GHz) WiFi.

Does Dell even offer an ac WiFi card in this Inspiron model?

If you want to use 5 GHz, the easiest way would to disable the installed WiFi card in Device Manager and plug in a dual-band USB3 WiFi 802.11ac dongle, and load its drivers.

Recommended solution is to remove the internal wifi card and toss into the trash bin and plug in a specific USB Wifi Adapter.

No drivers are needed for Windows 8 or 10 with this adapter.  You plug in and it works.

@speedstep  - Isn't that what I already said? Why do you repeat everything that's already be posted?

Your posting does not specify where to obtain said device so its not repeating.  I disagree with that characterization.

5ghz requires 802.11AC adapter and router.
