Inspiron 3670, adding additional hard drive

We've just purchased an Inspiron 3670 with a 1TB hard drive, 8GB DDR4, 16GB Optane memory on M2 slot. As I was taking off all the stuff I want from the old computer, found out husband's music collection by itself is almost 1/2 a TB. He wants all of it on an internal drive on the Inspiron 3670. From the diagrams in support, it looks like there are spots for two additional 2.5" hard drives. I am looking at a 2.5" Seagate 4TB drive. The question is, will this system accept the Seagate 4TB 2.5" drive? I tried calling support but I cannot understand the accent and she talks way too fast. And it sounded like she was talking memory (which to me is RAM?) and not storage?

Any thoughts?

Unknown about 4TB compatibility with the BIOS.

aaronwt, thanks for the note about 6TB working.

This is 2018. If a small 4TB drive can't work with a 2018 Dell PC there is a serious problem. Even my old PCs from ten years ago can work with an internal 6TB 3.5" drive and an internal 4TB 2.5" drive..

No reason why it shouldn't work with a 4TB drive. I have a 6TB 3.5 inch drive in one of my 3670 PCs that works fine. So if it works with a 3.5" drive it should be no different for a 4TB 2.5" drive.

The largest 2.5" drive I've connected to a 3670 PC was also 4TB. But that was from the USB port.

Lots of threads about adding an additional HDD to the Inspiron 3670 for your reading enjoyment, so search for them.

A 4TB probably shouldn't be a problem but you're going to need a non-standard SATA cable for it, so be sure to read this thread, and there may be others about the cable too:

Yup - read the threads re the cable issues.  As I understand it, need a right angle head.  I've saved the links from the post.  Thanks for the hint

I used this adapter in my three 3670 PCs. For the lower 2.5" drive location.(at least I think it was that one. I only needed to use it for one of the 2.5" drive locations)

Thank you everyone - one additional question:  The seagate 4TB drive I want is 15mm thick rather than the typical thickness - is there room for that?  Looks to me, without opening my case and actually measuring that there is no actual drive bay, it is just flush mounted to the front with 4 screws into the back of the drive, that its only a few wires passing either under or in front (or back as may be) of the drive?

Just got the 3670 up and running and with our old altec lansing speakers and subwoofer, the sound set for studio quality - it is awesome.  To my mind at least!

For anyone who is interested, I did install the Seagate Barracuda 4TB 2.5" drive (with difficulty, the **bleep** right angle SATA data cable wants to bump into the chassis frame)  It is working fine.  Getting Outlook 2010 to actually connect with its *.pst file, well, that was aggravating.

Note:  I am far from a techie, never done this particular thing before, getting the right screws out here in the boonies was a pain but otherwise, this went quite well.

I've been quite disappointed with the construction of my 3670 compared with older Dell machines. No spare bays, no spare cabling and even unusual cabling making it difficult to move drives over or expand the machine. Performance still beats my old Lenova hands down (an experience I won't be repeating) but will require a lot more information than is available on the sales sight before rushing to buy another Dell - shame

Same here - iffy build quality

I was disappointed by the 'Quality' of the Vostro 3671; clearly NOT a $1000 PC

Only 2 SATA power tails; what the heck were they thinking? There's 4 SATA ports on the motherboard!

The case metal is thin and flimsy, clearly NOT the Dell I've experienced since sending Michael Dell samples to his parents garage in Round Rock!

Just get Y adapters for the SATA power. That is what I did with my 3670.
