Inspiron 3891, Event Viewer error - Usbupdate.exe fails
Hello, I completed a fresh restore/install of Windows 11 and keep seeing this error in the event viewer. Internet research suggests the UsBUpdate.exe originates from Dell. I have no new updates available in Windows update or Dell Update. Any advice?

There will be no notification of any sort. The OTA (over the air) update is going to happen for all Dell remediation services (SupportAssist, Alienware Update, Dell Update).

Hi LittleMaui:
If you're asking if the specific problem you reported in this thread back in May 2022 (i.e., logging of USBIEUpdate / UsbUpdate.exe errors in Windows Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer) then I believe the general consensus is that this problem was solved in early June 2022 per employee DELL-Chris-M's post <above> in this thread.
If you're asking if it's safe to upgrade to the new SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. 23-Jun-2022) then that's a completely different question. There have been significant changes to the minimum system requirements for SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 [the release notes <here> state you must now have .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.x in addition to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2], and I believe my SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 update also installed a new service called Dell TechHub.
The update from SupportAssist v3.10.4.18 to v3.11.4.29 went smoothly on my Inspiron 5584 [note that the .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.16 was installed on my system by Windows Update in April 2022 - see the image below) and so far I haven't had any problems running "Get Drivers & Downloads" or Scan Hardware" scans from the Home tab. However, many other users, especially those with Win 11 OSs and/or higher-end XPS/Latitude/OptiPlex models, have reported problems updating / installing / running SupportAssist v3.11.4.29. You should read through some of those threads in the Dell SupportAssist for PCs board and decide for yourself if you'd like to try updating to SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 on your own Inspiron 3891.

Always include the exact PC model in your posts.
Do you have the latest Intel Chipset and Management Engine drivers for Win 11 installed for your specific PC model?
Try this:

Ran all three. No errors detected. Same message regarding usbupdate.exe

You still haven't told us exactly which PC model this is...
A Restore and an Install are two entirely different things.

Dell XPS 8950
Windows 11 Home
1TB SSD
Intel i7 12700
32 GB DDR5
Nvidia 1660Ti
All system updates are current
The usbupdate.exe errors reported in reliability monitor seem to occur at startup and the same error report as submitted by LittleMaui. Multiple usbupdate.exe errors occur at startup.
I ran a full system Norton and Malwarebytes scan, checkdisk, sfc, DISM, and a hardware scan with no issues reported. USB ports are functioning properly. I then reset Windows 11. The usbupdate.exe error was not resolved.
Please advise.

@smokeygraypoupon @LittleMaui posted this in the Inspiron forum, not the XPS forum. So that's whay we need to know if that PC is also an XPS 8950.
EDIT: @smokeygraypoupon What version of BIOS is installed on your XPS 8950?

I have the exact same issue on two Dell systems - an XPS 8930 running fully updated Win 10 and an Inspiron 15 5510 running fully updated Win 11. The error repeats itself 7 - 8 times each system is rebooted and anytime Dell Update is manually run. I am assuming that the error occurs upon reboot because Dell Update automatically runs a check at each reboot. Interesting enough, the "stopped working" status appears to be meaningless because Dell Update performs an actual update perfectly each time it is run regardless of the error notice.

@LittleMaui
Error: Exception: Access violation error (0xc0000005)
indicates that malware was denied starting. There is NO USB update that's an EXE file from Dell or Microsoft.

Today I started seeing the same exact error on my Dell G3 3579 laptop running Windows10. The only recent change was Dell SupportAssist which was updated automatically within the past 48 hours. Other than that, I have had Windows updates paused for a couple of weeks and haven't made any changes nor installed any new software.

Just rebooted and received the error again several times. I have since run Malwarebytes and Windows Defender virus - including the full and offline options. Nothing detected.
Going to try uninstalling Dell Update to see if the error continues.

@LittleMaui Glad you haven't seen the errors again, but why haven't you told us what PC model you have?
And if you have Dell Update installed, try running it manually since @AustinEd says that triggers the errors on his PCs.

I haven't received the error message since running @RoHe recommendations above. Still testing to make sure.
