Inspiron 5384, BIOS error

Last night my inspiron 5384 pc crashed with a BIOS error. After running the diagnostics it pointed me to dells support centre and advised me to upgrade to BIOS version A11. Downloaded the A11 exe file dropped it on to a usb drive and tried to boot from that using the flash boot option.  When I select the a11 bios update file the system, revision and vendor details all come up invalid and the begin flash update button is greyed out and unelectable.  Where do I go from here?

If you already got a "BIOS error", it's very risky to try running a new BIOS update, so stop...!

Exactly what BIOS error did you get? You need to resolve that before you go any further.
