Inspiron 546 MT, Dell OS Recovery Tool not working?

When I try to use the tool there is nothing available for the tool to create the os recovery usb drive. I have tried the default to scan for Service Tag and manually enter the Service Tag. Neither option works. I just get not available at this time.

@OKCRandy  - So why were you trying to use the Recovery Tool? Do you want to re-install Win 7 or are you trying to upgrade to Win 10? Either way, Dell's Recovery Tool won't help you.

If this PC came with Win 7 Pro, was a Win 7 installation DVD included?

And since Win 7 isn't supported any longer, you might try upgrading to Win 10, assuming this PC can run Win 10. Go to the Win 10 download site and follow the instructions to "Upgrade this PC now".  Be sure to back up your files or image the entire HDD before attempting to upgrade to Win 10...

Helps if you tell us what version of Windows is running...

The Support page for the 546 doesn't even list an OS Recovery Tool so why do you think there is one? And Dell only supported this PC up to Win 7. Doesn't mean it can't run Win 10, but...

And why are you trying to do an OS recovery?

The recovery tool is for newer WIN7 WIN8 WIN10 systems not 12 year old machines that ran XP and Vista.

I know the specs of the machine and it was ordered with Windows 7 Pro.

If it was ordered with WIN7 pro it would have OEM WIN7 PRO COA Sticker on it.   I know for a fact that these systems are from 2007 not 2009. WIN7  became generally available on October 22, 2009.

So the service tag of the system would also mention VISTA and XP not WINDOWS 7.  Windows XP updates ceased on April 9, 2014. its now 2020 more than 10 years past when the machine was produced.

"x15-53895" = Windows 7 Professional.

This is why there is no IMAGE for this model on the recovery page.

X13-04660 = Vista Business

You can insist till the cows come home that it came with 7 but it did not.

The COA sticker will say XP or Vista not WIN7.

Your attempts at time travel are unsuccessful.

There is NO IMAGE for WIN7 for this model on recovery page and never will be.

Naw...Windows 8 gets that prize.

Glad you were able to get Win 10 running...
