Inspiron 5675, new AMD R5 1600 CPU, compatible?
Hello. I had purchased this PC about a year ago and am coming around to upgrading it. There seems to be a new AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU on the market. A 12nm version (1600 AF). Could anyone tell me if this CPU is compatible with this PC's motherboard? I have the A10 9700 version.
Thanks in advance.

Dell only supports the cpu that it shipped with and they DO NOT guarantee future updates to bios microcode.
AMD Ryzen 5 Ryzen™ 5 1600

AMD A10 7th Gen A10-9700
CHIPSET FEATURES: Note that not all processors are supported on every chipset, and support may require a BIOS upgrade. See your motherboard manufacturer’s website for compatibility). AM4 represents a new socket and platform for AMD's high-end. we're still left with unanswered questions with regards to AMD's 7th Generation.
Dell XFRWW Red Skull Bristol Ridge is the original board.
There are also 2 versions of the cpu.
Old : AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 6x 3.20GHz, boxed (YD1600BBAEBOX)
new: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 [12nm], 6x 3.20GHz, boxed (YD1600BBAFBOX)

There is no change on the (Dell internal only) Inspiron 5675 validated parts page for CPU =

RT9MT A12-9800, 3.80GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge
The Inspiron 5675 and 5676 share three motherboards based on the CPU purchased =
477DV AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU + Asetek liquid cooler, Wistron
7PR60 AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU, Wistron & Foxconn
XFRWW AMD Bristol Ridge CPU, Wistron
Only AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU motherboards 477DV and 7PR60 can utilize the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X and Dell OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU.
Motherboard 477DV and 7PR60 with an AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU =
Slot 1 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed
Slot 2 = PCIe x1, Gen3 speed
Slot 3 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed
Slot 4 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed
Motherboard XFRWW with an AMD Bristol Ridge CPU =
Slot 1 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed
Slot 2 = PCIe x1, Gen3 speed
Slot 3 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed
Slot 4 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed

M.2 SATA connector next to green USB 2.0 cable connector reserved for WiFi card
Inspiron 5676

Dell cannot speak to the BIOS questions. Users with different BIOS will simply need to test those CPU and see what happens. As to why the third motherboard does not support those CPU, don't know.
These two motherboards support the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X and Dell OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU =
477DV AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU + Asetek liquid cooler, Wistron
7PR60 AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU, Wistron & Foxconn
This one does not =
XFRWW AMD Bristol Ridge CPU, Wistron
The way the data is being presented on internal parts page, original motherboard only supports the Bristol Ridge CPU =
KMF13 A10-9700, 3.50GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge
RT9MT A12-9800, 3.80GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge
Until someone actually tests a non-tested/non-validated Ryzen CPU, we cannot know for sure.

Thank you for the response.
It seems that I own the XFRWW Bristol Ridge board. Am I understanding correctly that I cannot use a CPU that is not a Bristol Ridge A10 or A12? If this is the case, would I have to purchase a new motherboard or just try my luck with the Ryzen 5 1600?

No, unfortunately. When I had finished installation the PC would not display anything. When I put the old CPU back in the PC did work, so I would buy a new motherboard if you would like to upgrade.

Hi I just bought the same cpu as you, what Mobo did you buy for the 1600 af and did you have any problems putting in a different Mobo or any problems in general that you ran into because I have the inspirion 5675 with a a10-9700 CPU with a RX 560 GPU.
