Inspiron 5675 vs 5676, same motherboard?

I've had my Inspiron 5675 for about a year, and I love it. I got the Ryzen 5 1400 version, with the intention to eventually upgrade the processor. Coming from a Phenom 940, it was already a MASSIVE jump in power.

Anyway, when I got the service manual for it, I noticed that my motherboard doesn't really look like the one described there. Mainly, it's got an M.2 PCIe slot that is marked, with a socket, and I believe it even shows up in the BIOS.

Looking at the 5676 motherboard, it looks pretty much the same. If you look at  reviews that show the internals, you can see what i mean.

I really don't have any interest in crossfire or anything like that, however a CPU upgrade eventually is always nice, and the Ryzen 5 1500, 7 1700, and 7 2700 all have the same TDP, so I wouldn't need a new PSU. That is, if the motherboard can use the 2700.

Does anyone have more details on this?

Are you still running the 1700x in your XFRWW? That's exactly what I have, the Inspiron 5675 A10 9700 and I want to upgrade it to the 1700 because they share the same TDP, 65w.

I have another question regarding the dell 5676, that is the model I have it is a great machine, but I feel like I am not getting all I can out of it. The CPU sits at 3.2 ghz even under full load, it will not boost what chipset is it running?

My 5676 does the same thing. It won't go over 3.9 ever. I think it's Dells VRM's. Also I've added a front fan and can't get it to every go above 700 rpm. It's a 1600 rpm noctua. I should have known better to buy a Dell.  Dealing with like this. The 5676 has the X370 chipset which I was honestly surprised to see since the X chipsets are the expensive ones.

Been running the 1700x for over a year, hours a day of use, in the 5675 motherboard that came with the a10 series CPU.

newegg has the 1900x threadripper on sale at the moment and to my understanding, it rivals the 2700. do you think that it would work? i just got the 5675 as a hand-me-down a couple of months ago, but its pretty for gaming. id really like to upgrade, but i dont want to spend the money if its not going to work. im kinda scared to take the chance also, as this is the only computer in the house.

sadly no 5675 mobo only supports 1st gen ryzen and while it is one, threadripper uses a different socket from AM4 which is used for most ryzen cpus

you think 1700X will work on 5676 mobo?  I brick my 5675 with bio update and it is really bricked... no post or video response.  I am happy with 5675 but if CPU get cheaper to upgrade later?

@jonnev  -  Did you try clearing BIOS by removing the motherboard battery and pressing/holding power button PC for ~30 sec? Then reinstall the battery (probably a good time for a fresh CR2032 battery) and see if it boots now.

If that doesn't help, you might be able to do a BIOS Recovery. You'll find the BIOS Recovery Image file you'll need to do a BIOS Recovery linked on this page.  You'll also need an empty 2-GB (non-bootable) USB stick.

You cleared BIOS by removing, holding power button and replacing the battery?

Have you re-seated the video card in its slot and checked video cable connections at both ends?

Can you test this monitor on a different PC or a different monitor on this PC?

I tried all that but I do not even at a blink from the monitor, dead screen.  How would usb stick work if it does not post at all but just power light blinks yellow?

great post...  I bricked my 5675 with bio update and was just wondering if the dell 5675 case will fit any of the 5800 or 3800 aurora dell motherboards? if it is easier just to upgrade the motherboard instead of using older board if I am investing new money?

I tried to upgrade the bios on my dell 5675 and now I know it has the water cooler 477DV red skull summit ridge motherboard.  I assume I have to buy this replacement motherboard? I have the 1700X cpu but in the future if I get the 2700 cpu which bio version date do I need if I replace the motherboard for a used one on Ebay if Dell cannot sell me one or fix the corrupt bios?
