As long as the original RAM is in there, it will work in conjunction with it. However, the issue most of use have is that the factory RAM is considerably smaller in capacity than what we've tried to upgrade to. And worse part is, it was working before the update. For example, I was running 2x 16gb sticks... now have to buy expensive version of the same to get it to work as it once did already.

I just had the same problem. Today my system updated BIOS and other flash files. Up to today my system were running with two Corsair CMK16GX4M1A2666C16. 16GB DDR4/2666 After the bios update it does not start anymore and flashing power led 5 white 2 yellow. I was able to start it in a mixed mode with the original 8GB memory and one Corsair . Can we have a better bios firmware accepting some more memories ?

Now that we are a month later, there has been a BIOS update or two since the last post.
Has this issue been fixed for anyone? I'm still waiting to see if I should update my son's 3891.

Just got a brand new machine and can confirm that this is still and issue, many months after the original post. It came with BIOS 1.3.1 on it and the 16GB RAM sticks didn't work unless the factory 8GB stick was installed. Upgraded to the latest BIOS (1.5) and of course it made no difference.
This is making me very frustrated with Dell when you combine this issue with the fact that they keep adjusting their prices constantly.
And the "accepted" solution from Dell is to roll back the BIOS? That doesn't seem like something they should be recommending that we do. And to what version?

I'm having the same issue. Has anyone had success fixing this boot issue with 3rd party ram?

Did you ever get this resolved? I've purchased the same Crucial Ballistix cards and can't get my 3891 to boot.

I've run into the same loop. I purchased three different ram sticks now. Dell support has me running in circles. I still can't get the computer to boot with the exact specs they provided.

I've been waiting for a resolution since 3/18/22. They are escalating internally but there's been no solution or attempt at resolution with me since then. I've received about 15 messages from Dell technical support since I first raised the issue.

@jjgrayson Did you try a BIOS Recovery as suggested by @redxps630, earlier in this thread?

I am using 2 tubes of Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz. But it is not working after updating to bios 1.6.0. Recovry back to 1.4.1 still not working, have to use the factory 8G to boot up system

Does that mean you have to use the 8 GB OEM stick with one Corsair, or it only boots when using just the one OEM stick?

Sorry, this solution didn't work for me. Do you have any other solution handy?
