Memory for Inspiration 3670

Greetings,

I am using an Inspiration 3670 with the 8GB of memory which came with the unit.  When I attempt to download a 128gb XQD card from my camera it says there is not enough available space.  If I increase the size of the DDR4 SDRAM cards from the current 8 GB to 32 GB will that correct this problem, or do I need to do something else?

Many thanks,

AL Photodog

Sounds  -to me- more likely to be limited free space on your storage HDD or SSD.

What size is the drive where you store all these files and how much free space is available? Can some files be moved onto an external USB HDD to free up space on the internal drive?

Hi RoHe,

Thank you for the reply.  Sorry but am computer illiterate.  I could find and easily work my older computer which has Windows 7 on it, but can't stand Windows 10.

I don't save to the computer's hard drive. Made a mistake when I posted, it has 12GB (not   of memory and it currently has 11.8 GB open.   I save all my document files to flash drives.  Once I look at the photos I transfer them to external hard drives, then delete everything from the desktop and empty the trash can.  Using the Windows 7 machine,  I have no problems downloading the entire 128 GB camera disc to the desk top. I then divide the folder of photos onto flash drives & then transfer  them to the Windows 10 computer which has the Nikon software for photo editing on it.  Made the mistake of deleting it off the Windows 7 machine.

 Appreciate your help.

The Inspiron 3670 w/Win 10  that I am using has an Intel (R) Core (TM i5-9400 CPU @2.90GHz

Installed RAM is 12.GB (11.8GB useable)

System type is 64 bit operating system, x64-based processor

If the camera card (128 GB) is anywhere near full it can not be downloaded on the Inspiron 3670 as I get a message to effect of not enough space available. Due to this I have to use the Studio w/Win 7  to download all the images.  Am not able to reload the Nikon software as it is no longer available for Win 7.  Therefore I have to "divide" the images between thumb drives that are of small enough so that the Win 10 computer will have enough "space" to open them.

Hope this is clearer. I apologize that I am using the wrong terminology.

What I want to do is be able to work on the Inspiron with the Win 10 and not have to go back and forth between the two computers because there is not enough whatever (RAM, ROM, X) for me to do this. Am trying to find out if I can purchase something which will allow me to do this.

Thanks.

Now I'm totally confused...

What "has 12GB (not of memory and it currently has 11.8 GB open"? And what does "not of memory" mean?

Which PC is this, Win 7 or Win 10 when you say:  "I have no problems downloading the entire 128 GB camera disc to the desk top. " ?

Can't you just reinstall that software on the Win 7 PC?

Ram is not related to Picture download.

Your hard drive is out of space.

I thank you for your help. I don't understand how I can be out of hard drive space as I don't save anything to it. How do I find out what is on the hard drive and how do I delete it?

If this helps -

Data (D) 710 GB free of 981 GB

OS (C) 13.9 GB free of 104 GB

That's exactly what I wanted to know. It sounds like you're trying to download the images from the card onto the small C drive instead of onto the D drive.

Open Windows Explorer and right-click your D drive and select Open in new window. Now open the sub-folder on the D drive where you want to store the images and keep it open.

Next, click the tab on the taskbar for Windows Explorer and double-click the entry for your camera card. If necessary, open the sub-folder on the card where the images are stored. Now just drag the images from that folder into the (sub-)folder on D where you want to save them. You can either copy or move those files onto D.

That should solve the problem...

Thank you will give that a try when I get back and let you know.  Greatly appreciate all your help and staying with me.

@AL photodog  You're welcome. Let us know how it goes...

BTW: That's a pretty small SSD for your C: drive. You might consider upgrading to a larger SSD for the OS and your apps, keeping the D HDD for storage. This PC model can support an M.2 NVME up to 512 GB, and possibly larger.
