Replacing Hdd with Ssd issues.

I have a G5 5590 with i7 9750h, rtx 2060, 256g m.2, and a 1t hdd.

I got a crucial mx500 to replace the hdd. The m.2 has the operating system on it. When I tried to swap the drives out bios sees the m.2 and ssd drives but windows refuses to reconise the ssd in disk management. I preformatted the ssd with an external enclosure. Windows saw all three drives. As soon as I swap out the hdd with the ssd internally (sata connection) windows will not find the ssd drive. I've tried some of the "fixes" online but nothing seems to work.

Is this a Windows issue? A dell issue? Why can I see the drive when I plug it into a usb3 but not the sata cable? I would really like to keep my OS on the m.2 and replace the hdd. Anyone run into this problem?

I do plan on eventually replacing the stock m.2 with a Samsung 870 Evo but I'm not there yet.

@SkeyeKnight  - It helps if you tell us what "fixes" you already tried so we don't repeat...

Did you try clearing BIOS with the SSD connected, after disconnecting the HDD?

  1. Reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup
  2. Copy down all current BIOS settings
  3. Power off, unplug
  4. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  5. Open case and disconnect motherboard coin cell battery cable (check Service Manual for details)
  6. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  7. Reconnect battery cable
  8. Close up
  9. Reboot
