Stop Code: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error message

Inspiron 7459

Inspiron 7459

I get a blue screen & it comes up with an error message: Stop Code: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

This only happens when I unplug the ethernet cable from the computer?

So unless I have the internet service plugged in via ethernet cable the computer won't work.

The computer won't load again until I reset the internet and plug in the ethernet cable into the port.

This should not happen as the computer should still run whether it is connected to the internet or not.

Someone please help!

Since it's a strange issue, let's try to resolve it with a strange approach as well.  Go to Device Manager and check under Network to see which is the Wi-Fi device you are using.  Uninstall the Wi-Fi driver and reinstalling the matching driver below:

Intel 3165/7265 driver.

Dell 1801 Wi-Fi driver.

After reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver, restart machine and test again by pulling the ethernet cable.

Any recent changes or updates being done to the system?  Little strange about your finding as most search results for that error message are pointing to hard drive/ssd issue, not ethernet or network related.

There is a couple thing to try, let's run pre-boot diagnostics to see any error such as 2000-0142.  Check in Device Manager to see any drivers or firmware error.  Then a resolution will be pursue accordingly.

No updates that I know of just the standard automatic ones. It is very strange and I only found out by accident. The computer will be running as normal and as soon as I unplug the Ethernet cable within seconds the blue screen comes up with the watchdog error. It never happens any other time.

Although the Wi-Fi driver did not resolve your issue, I still think it was the cause of the error message.  By removing the ethernet cable, your system would trying to connect through the Wi-Fi and that was triggered the BSOD.

You can focus on that assumption and testing with either a different Wi-Fi card or a different Wi-Fi driver.
