Printer-scanner drivers come from the manufacturer, not Microsoft. Get the driver from Epson. If it's working ok, that is not the mystery device in Device Mgr. Scanners connect wirelessly or with a printer cable. Check your other devices connected with usb.
@Sadie Brown - Does that entry still appear in Device Manager if you boot PC with your Epson printer/scanner turned off?
This PC has an SD card reader and a camera. The SD reader is an internal USB device and the camera probably is also a USB device. Have you tested to see if they're both working properly, in case Windows misidentified either of them as a USB scanner?
If you try to remove this entry, you should manually set a Windows System Restore point first, to be safe.
