Upgraded Ram

Question

I have upgraded my Ram from 2 x 4gigs to 2 x 8 gigs
I did not buy from the Dell store
I added the ram and they are working fine - the CPU then starts going to 100% and my PC freezes forcing me to shut it down

I have removed the upgraded sticks and the PC is running as it was (slowly) with the ram at a very high rate

I have attached a picture of my system

Post your exact model. We can't comment specifically without it. We can't see the attachment that you posted until its reviewed by the forum administrator.

We have seen many issues with mixing memory. Memory should only be the same brand/type.

Dell's have a history of memory compatibility with non Dell branded memory. Some will work OK in one and not in the other. The Kingston Value Ram (KVR) should be avoided as we have seen many problems with the KVR.

Crucial is one brand that is guaranteed to work in a Del, as long as the recommended for a specific model is used.

For Inspiron 3847 the spec for MemoryTwo DIMM socketsType DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)Speed 1600 MHzConfigurations supported 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB what is spec of your non Dell ram?  first verify whether the new ram speed is not too much faster than 1600 MHz.  If new rams are DDR3-1866 (PC3-14900) some pc bios might be able to run them at reduced clock of 1600, but no guarantee.  If your new ram is not 1600, get 2x8 GB PC3-12800 and test again.
