15R SE 7520 Win10 won't update from version 1803 to 1809

Hi! Has anyone in the world succeeded in upgrading Windows 10 Pro 64 bit from version 1803 to version 1809 on the excellent and well sold Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 notebook (w / BIOS A14)? If so, could you please help me by providing the steps to be followed? Note: I am aware that Dell, for some reason not understandable to a loyal Dell enthusiast, has not tested this model for such update and will not provide drivers for it. Thanks in advance. I have two Dell systems, one is Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 and second is Dell Inspiron 15R 7520. Both systems are not listed under list of systems tested by Dell for Windows 10 October update (1809).

However just a week ago my Inspiron 15R 5520 got Windows 10 October update through Windows Update, where as my Inspiron 15R 7520 didn't.

If you don't want to wait for automatic update, you can choose Windows 10 Update Assistant. It will tell if your system is not ready. I tested it on my 15R 7520, and it said my system was compatible.

I stopped the download as I'm in middle to end of some large games which I would finish by mid January and I would rather have a bit of delay than to find out that one of my game entered compatability issue. I don't have a choice if my system receives automatic update as I have Windows 10 home so can't turn off windows update.

If you choose to update using Windows Update Assistant, do create back up (especially of user folders) , using back up softwares or in cloud and create a system restore point. Guide for how to create system restore can be found here https://m.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-restore-Windows-10.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 is tested and compatible for Windows 10 operating system. You can use the following link to upgrade to 1809 version of Windows.

Hi, Ravi

Thanks for your prompt reply but…

…my Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 has Windows 10 installed since version 1511 build 10586.29 of December/2015 and after dozens of automatic updates by Microsoft it is currently running version 1803 build 17134.472 of December/2018. What I mean is that my notebook has Windows 10 installed since 2015, is working perfectly well BUT is not listed as tested with Windows 10 October 2018 update (version 1809) by Dell according to Dell article referred to by link below:

https://www.dell.com/support/article/br/pt/brbsdt1/sln297954/dell-computers-tested-for-windows-10-october-2018-update-and-previous-versions-of-windows-10?lang=en#Inspiron-NB-OCT18U

Above mentioned article also states that “if your computer model is not listed, Dell is not testing the device, and drivers have not been updated for that model” what makes me believe that my Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 will always be  stuck in Windows 10 version 1803 unless a workaround exists so that I can upgrade it to version 1809. Dell article states that Dell Precision 7520 is compatible with Windows 10 version 1809 but Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 is not. Please tell me I am wrong.

same problem to me.

I have Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and Win-10-1803. Using the microsoft update downlinks it was not possible to update to 1809 or higher.

Is there any chance for a newer win-version than 1803 for the Inspiron 15R SE 7520?

Regards

Bernd.
