Thank you for your response. The computer is still under warranty, but warranty service is not able to solve the problem. Hence my reaching out to the community on this blog.
I still haven’t received your Service Tag or Express Service Code or Order Number. I’ll be able to assist you with your query as soon as I receive any of them.

I neglected to mention that the touchpad was replaced on the first unit. This of course did not fix the problem.
