BSOD while installing PowerDVD

  • Hello

On my G7, each time I try to install PowerDVD 20, I get a BSOD with "ACPI BIOS ERROR". I can never reach the end of the installation. Any ideas?

Hi @davitofr  this is what you should see with the free version of Revo Uninstaller.

When uninstalling window appears, select Advanced Scanning Mode.

That’s good in case he doesn’t know where to find the option.

@crimsom

I guess the important part was "with upgrade option". If I was sure this would solve the issue, I would gladly pay. But I am not even sure...

@davitofr

If this is just to play DVDs, have you tried VLC https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ?

Hi @davitofr  the important bit is "Download the free Revo Uninstaller and use with Advanced scanning mode setting." The professional, paid for version, will not perform differently.

Revo Uninstaller free is known to remove everything such that it gives the user the privilege to install an application "as if for the first time".

This advice is free, the Revo Uninstaller free application is free, and you are free to ignore this advice and keep moaning.

Oh yes, VLC is good. I am currently using it. But I also want to watch BluRays. And PowerDVD should be better for upscaling.

Experiencing a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) with an "ACPI BIOS ERROR" during the installation of PowerDVD 20 on your G7 laptop can be a frustrating issue. This error typically points to an issue with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings in your BIOS. Here are some steps you can take to address this problem:

  1. Check System Requirements: Ensure that your G7 laptop meets the system requirements for PowerDVD 20. Verify that your operating system is supported, and your hardware components (CPU, RAM, graphics card) meet or exceed the minimum requirements.

  2. Update BIOS: Outdated or incompatible BIOS firmware can lead to ACPI-related errors. Visit the official website of your laptop's manufacturer and check for BIOS updates for your specific laptop model. If updates are available, follow the manufacturer's instructions to install them carefully. Updating the BIOS may resolve ACPI-related issues.

  3. Reset BIOS Settings: Sometimes, incorrect BIOS settings can cause ACPI errors. You can try resetting your BIOS to its default settings. Be cautious when doing this, as it can affect other configurations. Refer to your laptop's manual or the manufacturer's website for instructions on resetting the BIOS settings.

  4. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates and drivers. Outdated drivers, especially those related to power management, can trigger ACPI errors.

  5. Power Management Settings: Access the power management settings in your BIOS and Operating System. Ensure that power management features are enabled and configured correctly.

  6. Driver Updates: Check if there are any driver updates available for your laptop's motherboard, chipset, and other hardware components. Updated drivers can often resolve ACPI issues.

  7. Contact CyberLink Support: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to CyberLink's customer support. They might have specific solutions or updates related to PowerDVD 20 that can address ACPI-related issues.

  8. Hardware Issues: In rare cases, ACPI errors can be related to hardware problems, such as faulty RAM or motherboard issues. If all else fails, consider running hardware diagnostics or seeking assistance from a professional technician to rule out any hardware-related problems.

Remember to back up important data before making any significant changes to your system, omproductions such as BIOS updates or resetting BIOS settings. ACPI errors can sometimes be tricky to diagnose and resolve, so if you're unsure about any of the steps, it's a good idea to seek assistance from the laptop manufacturer's support or a knowledgeable technician.
